Preview Roundups
September 28, 2016
Seattle at Houston 2:10 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros have taken turns denting each other's postseason hopes, and one club will take another hit when the American League West rivals wrap up their three-game series in Houston on Wednesday afternoon. The teams split the first two games of the set as they try to run down either Baltimore or Detroit for the final AL wild-card spot.
Boston at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees managed to keep the rival Boston Red Sox from celebrating a division title in their building on Tuesday and will try to pull the same trick with another win in the second of a three-game series on Wednesday. The Red Sox have a magic number of one to clinch the American League East, needing one win or a loss by the second-place Toronto Blue Jays.
Arizona at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The health of key pieces on the roster is the biggest concern for the Washington Nationals in the final week of the regular season, and the team got some bad news on that front Tuesday. The Nationals will be moving on without All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos the rest of the way and will try not to lose anyone else when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the third of a four-game set on Wednesday.
Chi. Cubs at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET

Even as they give their regular starters some extra rest before the postseason, the Chicago Cubs are showing no sign of letting up. The Cubs have won three straight and seven of their last eight, and they’ll try to continue the positive momentum in the third contest of their four-game road series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.

Baltimore at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays are still alive in the race for the American League East crown, though just barely. The Blue Jays will try to keep their chances alive and knock the Baltimore Orioles further back in the wild card race when they host the second of a three-game series on Wednesday.
Cleveland at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
After watching the visiting Cleveland Indians celebrate a division title on their field Monday, the Detroit Tigers reaped one benefit by beating up on what amounted a "B" lineup the following night. Sitting one game behind Baltimore for the American League's second wild card, the Tigers resume their four-game series against the Indians on Wednesday night.
Philadelphia at Atlanta 7:10 PM ET
It only is appropriate in his final visit to Turner Field that Ryan Howard would punish the home team, and the slugger will look to do it again Wednesday when the Philadelphia Phillies take on the Atlanta Braves in the second contest of their three-game set. Howard belted a grand slam in the first inning of Tuesday’s 7-6 defeat, his 23rd career homer at the ballpark the Braves will leave after Sunday’s season finale.
NY Mets at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Miami Marlins are trying to battle through a whirlwind of emotions as they wrap up a three-game series against the visiting New York Mets on Wednesday night. While Miami will be playing their third game following the tragic death of pitcher Jose Fernandez, the Mets are looking to maintain their grip on the top wild card in the National League.
Minnesota at Kansas City 7:15 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals are still a long shot to make the playoffs this year, but the defending World Series champions are pretty much a sure shot when they face the cellar-dwelling Minnesota Twins this season. Kansas City will hope to stave off postseason elimination and post its 15th win in 18 meetings with Minnesota as the American League Central rivals head into Wednesday's second contest of the three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.
Milwaukee at Texas 8:05 PM ET
Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy are having a fun time re-introducing themselves to their former team. The pair looks to continue their rude greeting to their ex-mates on Wednesday as the American League West champion Texas Rangers vie for an interleague series victory over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers.
Tampa Bay at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox got off to the best start in the American League this season and appear intent on wrapping up the year in similar fashion. The White Sox have bounced back from a six-game skid by winning four in a row and look to continue the momentum against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night in the third of a four-game set.
Cincinnati at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
Aledmys Diaz left the St. Louis Cardinals for a day to mourn Sunday's death of Cuban boyhood neighbor Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins. The All-Star shortstop returned in style to help St. Louis post a pivotal victory, and the Cardinals aim for another crucial win when they host the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.
Oakland at LA Angels 10:05 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels hope to have Albert Pujols back in the lineup Wednesday as they attempt to complete a sweep of their three-game series against the visiting Oakland Athletics. Pujols, who leads Los Angeles in both home runs (31) and RBIs (119), did not play in Tuesday's 8-1 victory because of a sore foot.
LA Dodgers at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
While the Los Angeles Dodgers are busy finalizing their postseason roster, the San Diego Padres are giving their long-suffering fans reason for optimism. The Padres head into Wednesday’s matchup against the visiting Dodgers looking to build on Tuesday’s impressive 7-1 victory, which was highlighted by rookie outfielder Hunter Renfroe’s two home runs and seven RBI.
Colorado at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants haven't played like a postseason squad for most of September, but they continue to hold on to a National League wild-card spot entering Wednesday's contest against the visiting Colorado Rockies. The Giants are just 11-14 this month, but Tuesday's 12-3 thrashing of the Rockies allowed them to maintain a one-game lead over St. Louis for the second wild card.
