Preview Roundups
September 27, 2016
Boston at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox have won 11 in a row and are on the verge of clinching the American League East title as the rival New York Yankees finally begin to show some fight after slipping out of the race. David Ortiz begins his final series at Yankee Stadium when the Red Sox kick off a three-game set at New York on Tuesday.
Arizona at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals made sure to wrap up the National League East title more than a week before the end of the regular season, giving the team plenty of time to rest its ailing roster before the start of the division series. The Nationals are likely to sit Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy and others when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second of a four-game series on Tuesday.
Chi. Cubs at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET

There isn’t much left for the Chicago Cubs to accomplish in this regular season. The Cubs already have wrapped up the best record in the National League and their first 100-win season since 1935, and they’ll try to stay sharp with the postseason looming when they continue a four-game road series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.

Baltimore at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles have been left behind by the Boston Red Sox in the American League East but are still in line for the two AL wild card spots. The Blue Jays will try to ensure themselves homefield advantage in the wild card game when they host the Orioles in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday.
Cleveland at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
It's almost appropriate that the Cleveland Indians clinched the American League Central title in Detroit on Monday night, since their success against the Tigers played a huge role in winning the division title for the first time since 2007. With the AL Central wrapped up, the Indians can further dent Detroit's playoff hopes when the four-game series continues Tuesday night.
Philadelphia at Atlanta 7:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves open the final homestand at Turner Field on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, looking to refocus on baseball after Sunday’s series finale at Miami was canceled following the stunning death of Marlins’ star Jose Fernandez. The Braves have won seven of their past eight games entering their final six home dates before moving to SunTrust Park in 2017, but Sunday’s tragedy impacted Atlanta’s players who competed against Fernandez for the past four seasons.
NY Mets at Miami 7:10 PM ET
With the number of injuries that have ravaged the pitching staff of the New York Mets, Noah Syndergaard's recent bout with strep throat amounted to a sigh of relief. Syndergaard will have three extra days of rest as a result of the illness when he takes the mound in the continuation of a three-game series against the host Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.
Minnesota at Kansas City 7:15 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals may be left with just memories of last year's remarkable run to the World Series title, however manager Ned Yost's club has looked every bit the champion in the eyes of the Minnesota Twins. The Royals vie for their 14th win in 17 encounters versus the Twins on Tuesday as the American League Central rivals play the opener of a three-game series in Kansas City.
Milwaukee at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers lost some ground in their pursuit of the American League's best record and look to reverse course when they host the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday in the middle contest of their three-game interleague series. Texas dropped an 8-3 decision in the opener to fall one-half game behind Boston in the duel for home-field advantage throughout the postseason with just five contests remaining.
Tampa Bay at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
Chris Sale hopes to end a frustrating second half of the season on a high note when he takes the mound for the Chicago White Sox in the second of a three-game series against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Despite winning only twice since the All-Star break, Sale goes for a career high-tying 17th victory.
Seattle at Houston 8:10 PM ET
Robinson Cano has made himself at home at Minute Maid Park this season, and his latest big outing provided a big boost to the Seattle Mariners' postseason hopes. Cano belted two homers in Seattle's crucial series-opening 4-3, 11-inning victory over the Houston Astros and looks to inflict more damage when the Mariners visit their American League West rivals on Tuesday for the middle contest of a three-game set.
Cincinnati at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals were beaten savagely by Cincinnati in the series opener and badly need a victory when they host the Reds on Tuesday in the second contest of the four-game set. Cincinnati racked up 22 hits during a 15-2 rout on Monday that dropped the slumping Cardinals one game behind San Francisco for the National League's second wild-card spot with just six contests remaining.
Oakland at LA Angels 10:05 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels look to push the visiting Oakland Athletics deeper into the American League West cellar when the division rivals meet Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Los Angeles posted a 2-1 victory in the series opener to move 2 1/2 games ahead of Oakland, which has six games remaining while the Angels have five contests left.
LA Dodgers at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers have enjoyed a few days to savor the flavor of capturing their fourth consecutive National League West title. A winner of five in a row, manager Dave Roberts' club gets back to the business at hand on Tuesday as the Dodgers hit the road to open a three-game series versus the San Diego Padres.
Colorado at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
If the San Francisco Giants hope to continue their even-year dominance in this decade, they better alter their fortunes in a hurry. With the National League West title no longer a path to the postseason, the sluggish Giants look to get it in gear when they return home for their final six contests of the regular season - beginning with Tuesday's opener of a three-game set versus the Colorado Rockies.
