Preview Roundups
September 27, 2015
Chi. White Sox at NY Yankees 1:05 PM ET
With time running out in their pursuit of a division crown, the New York Yankees look to take three of four from the Chicago White Sox when the teams wrap up their set in Yankee Stadium on Sunday. Behind six strong innings from Adam Warren and a shutdown effort by the bullpen, New York picked up a 2-1 win over the White Sox on Saturday to keep pace with the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East.
Tampa Bay at Toronto 1:07 PM ET
Jose Bautista looks to finish off a productive series as his playoff-bound Toronto Blue Jays go after a three-game sweep of the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Seven of Bautista’s eight hits against the Rays this season have gone over the fence, including three blasts in the last two days as the Blue Jays clinched their first postseason berth in 22 years.
Minnesota at Detroit 1:08 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are hanging on in the race for the second American League wild card but are running out of time to make up ground on Houston. The Twins attempt to stay in the picture and pick up a series win when they visit the Detroit Tigers for the rubber match of their three-game series on Sunday.
Atlanta at Miami 1:10 PM ET
The last time the Atlanta Braves concluded a series in Miami, Shelby Miller came within one out of no-hitting the Marlins and won his fifth game of the season. Miller is back on the mound in Miami on Sunday for the first time since that outstanding performance to face the Marlins while still seeking his sixth victory, which would put an end to a quirky streak of bad luck, minimal run support and no wins that has lasted more than four months.
NY Mets at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
If the New York Mets couldn’t clinch the National League East for the first time since 2006 at Citi Field, it was fitting that it happened at the venue that probably feels like their second home - Great American Ball Park. The Mets, who ended a nine-year playoff drought with a 10-2 rout on Saturday, seek their 11th straight road victory and look to sweep the season series from the Reds one day later when the teams complete a four-game set in Cincinnati.
Baltimore at Boston 1:35 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox have a chance to avoid their third last-place finish in the last four seasons – all they need to do is get around the Baltimore Orioles or the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox will try to pull one game closer when they go for a three-game sweep of the visiting Orioles on Sunday.
Philadelphia at Washington 1:35 PM ET
The Washington Nationals host the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series less than 24 hours after being officially eliminated from playoff contention. The Nationals, who were picked by many experts before the season to reach the World Series, could only watch as the New York Mets clinched the National League East title Saturday afternoon.
Cleveland at Kansas City 2:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals already have captured the American League Central crown, but the Cleveland Indians might be the more dangerous team right now. The Indians have won 19 of their last 29 to climb within three games of Houston for the second wild-card spot heading into Sunday’s series finale in Kansas City.
Texas at Houston 2:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros snapped an eight-game losing streak against the Texas Rangers just in time to ensure that their lead for the second American League wild card would stay intact. The Astros will try to claim a series win and put some more distance between themselves and the Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota when they host the Rangers in the finale of their three-game series on Sunday.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 2:15 PM ET
With Carlos Martinez shelved the rest of the season and Adam Wainwright furiously trying to rebound from injury to join the bullpen, John Lackey finds himself as the St. Louis Cardinals’ ace heading toward the postseason. Lackey starts Sunday’s series finale when St. Louis hosts the Milwaukee Brewers while trying to fend off the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Central.
Seattle at LA Angels 3:35 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels attempt to extend their winning streak and potentially climb into a playoff spot when they host the finale of their three-game series against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Los Angeles put itself in position for a sweep Saturday as David Freese led off the bottom of the ninth inning with his 12th home run to snap a 2-2 tie and give the club its fourth consecutive victory.
San Francisco at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics will attempt to return to normalcy when they finish their interleague series Sunday in Oakland. In a Saturday matinee that featured the marquee matchup of retiring Bay Area greats Tim Hudson and Barry Zito, the clubs utilized 16 pitchers in a wild 14-10 win for the Giants.
Arizona at San Diego 4:10 PM ET
When the San Diego Padres host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday in the rubber match of their three-game series, both teams will be playing with an eye toward next season. It’s been that way for several weeks now, but it became even clearer after Arizona saw its hopes for a winning record extinguished with Saturday’s 3-0 loss.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 4:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers make another attempt at clinching the National League West when they attempt to salvage the finale of their three-game series against the host Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Los Angeles' magic number for claiming its third straight division title remained at two after it dropped an 8-6 decision on Saturday and San Francisco defeated Oakland earlier in the day.
Pittsburgh at Chi. Cubs 8:08 PM ET

Jake Arrieta has been nearly untouchable against the Pittsburgh Pirates this season, a trend the Chicago Cubs hope holds up through at least two more matchups. Arrieta, who is expected to start the National League wild-card game – likely against the Pirates – on Oct. 7, takes the mound Sunday in the finale of a three-game series between the NL Central rivals.
