Preview Roundups
September 14, 2015
Boston at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
A month ago, it was a foregone conclusion that the Boston Red Sox would finish last in the American League East for the third time in the last four seasons. The Red Sox are fighting their way past that conclusion and are looking to pull out of the basement when they visit the Baltimore Orioles for the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Washington at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals hope to have MVP candidate Bryce Harper back in the lineup Monday when they continue a six-game road trip with the first of three against the Philadelphia Phillies. Harper left Sunday's 5-0 win at Miami in the first inning after colliding with Marlins second baseman Derek Dietrich.
Kansas City at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians reached .500 for the first time since April briefly on Sunday before dropping back down below the break-even point. The Indians will try to get back to .500 when they host the first-place Kansas City Royals in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.
NY Yankees at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees have a tough hill to climb in the American League East after dropping three of four to first-place Toronto over the weekend. The Yankees will look to hold onto their comfortable position in the wild-card race when they start a nine-game road trip with the first of three against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.
Miami at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets have shown an uncanny ability to rally since the beginning of August and, as a result, appear poised to clinch their first National League East title since 2006. Holding a 9 ½-game edge on the Washington Nationals, the Mets look to extend their seven-game winning streak and shrink their magic number of 11 on Monday when they host the opener of a three-game set against the Miami Marlins.
Houston at Texas 8:05 PM ET
Cole Hamels received an extra day of rest and that allows him to start the opener when the Texas Rangers open a pivotal four-game series against the visiting Houston Astros on Monday. Texas trails Houston by 1 1/2 games in the American League West and holds a one-game lead over the Minnesota Twins for the second AL wild-card spot.
Oakland at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox will try to improve upon a difficult homestand when they welcome the Oakland Athletics to town for the first of four games Monday. Their playoff hopes were already slim to begin the 10-game stay at U.S. Cellular Field, but the White Sox have all but destroyed any chance of contending by dropping two of three each to fellow wild-card contenders Cleveland and Minnesota.
Detroit at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
In recent seasons, a mid-September series between Detroit and Minnesota would be a chance for the Tigers to pad their postseason resume against a last-place opponent. Things will be reversed this time around, when the last-place Tigers visit the postseason-hopeful Twins in the opener of a three-game series.
San Diego at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
Arizona slugger Paul Goldschmidt could be a game-time decision when the Arizona Diamondbacks open a three-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday. Goldschmidt twisted his right ankle during Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers and manager Chip Hale indicated the first baseman will be examined before he makes out the lineup.
LA Angels at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels were a dealt a swift blow in their pursuit of a playoff spot and look to rebound when they visit the Seattle Mariners on Monday in the opener of a three-game set. The Angels allowed five ninth-inning runs in a 5-3 loss to Houston on Sunday to drop 4 1/2 games behind the American League West-leading Astros as well as falling three games in back of the Texas Rangers for the second wild-card spot.
Colorado at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Adrian Gonzalez appears to be heating up again at just the right time for the Los Angeles Dodgers, whose magic number stands at 13 with 20 games remaining. Gonzalez looks to continue his strong play Monday as the Dodgers begin a three-game series against the visiting Colorado Rockies, who have won three of their last four.
Cincinnati at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants are 7 1/2 games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West with 19 contests left to play, but stranger things have happened. They’ll look to keep their faint playoff hopes alive Monday as they begin a three-game series against the visiting Cincinnati Reds, who have given the Giants trouble in recent years.
