Preview Roundups
September 10, 2016
Boston at Toronto 1:05 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays haven't been able to get a handle on their division rivals yet this month, and their inability to do so could be the very reason they are unable to defend their American League East title. The Blue Jays look to break out of their September swoon beginning Saturday when they attempt to even up a critical three-game series at home against the division-leading Boston Red Sox.
Chi. Cubs at Houston 1:05 PM ET

The Chicago Cubs have clinched their first back-to-back 90-win seasons since 1928-30, and they have their sights set on ending an even longer drought. The Cubs continue the quest for their first World Series title in 108 years with the second contest of their three-game interleague series against the host Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon.

Tampa Bay at NY Yankees 4:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees have won a season high-tying six in a row to make matters interesting in the playoff picture while the Tampa Bay Rays have dropped five of six to add more misery to a forgettable season. New York looks to continue its improbable march on Saturday as the American League East rivals play the third contest of their four-game series at Yankee Stadium.
Seattle at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
Felix Hernandez has defeated Oakland more than any other team but the right-hander has yet to beat the Athletics this season. The Seattle ace received no-decisions in both outings and looks to improve on his 22-8 career mark when the Mariners visit the Athletics on Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game set.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates' bid for a fourth consecutive postseason appearance is fading away, and the team can thank its current woeful stretch against its fellow National League Central representatives as the primary reason for the cloudy picture. The host Pirates look to get back on track Saturday when they play the third contest of their four-game series against the cellar-dwelling Cincinnati Reds.
Philadelphia at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals look to continue their domination of the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night when the National League East rivals play the third contest of their four-game series. Trea Turner highlighted his first career multi-homer performance with a walk-off blast in the ninth inning of Friday's 5-4 triumph as Washington posted its 10th win in 11 outings against Philadelphia.
Baltimore at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
Jordan Zimmermann has been a bystander for much of the last two-plus months but gets a chance to jump back into the pennant race when the Detroit Tigers continue their three-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. Zimmermann comes off the disabled list Saturday to make only his second start since June 30.
Kansas City at Chi. White Sox 7:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals made a spirited run to surge back into playoff contention in the American League Central, but the defending World Series champions are sliding backward following that stirring 18-4 surge. Losers of six their last nine, the Royals send struggling Edinson Volquez to the mound in the second of a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox.
Cleveland at Minnesota 7:10 PM ET
While the Cleveland Indians spent most of the early part of the season dominating the rest of the American League Central, they seemingly had no answer for the worst team in the division. The Indians have righted that wrong over the last month or so and eye their sixth consecutive win against the Twins as the division rivals continue their three-game series in Minnesota on Saturday.
NY Mets at Atlanta 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets figure to lean heavily on their elder statesmen once again when they put a six-game winning streak on the line Saturday at the Atlanta Braves. Curtis Granderson, the team's oldest position player at 35, homered in his fourth straight game and drove in three runs to lift the Mets to a comeback 6-4 win in the opener of the three-game series Friday night.
LA Dodgers at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Rich Hill appears to be fully recovered from the blister issues that sidelined him for more than a month and delayed his entry into the Los Angeles Dodgers' starting rotation. Hill carries a 12-inning scoreless streak into Saturday's start as the Dodgers look to even their three-game series against the host Miami Marlins.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 7:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals did what they do best to even their series with the visiting Milwaukee Brewers and look to gain the upper hand in the four-game set on Saturday. St. Louis staged a four-run rally in the fourth inning on Friday that featured a pair of two-run homers and rode it to a 4-3 victory, which kept the club one-half game back for the second National League wild card.
San Francisco at Arizona 8:10 PM ET
If the San Francisco Giants are going to end their second-half slide, they’ll do it with a new closer. Santiago Casilla has been removed from the role by Giants manager Bruce Bochy, whose team heads into Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks looking to continue their recent dominance at Chase Field.
Colorado at San Diego 8:40 PM ET
Charlie Blackmon's back is feeling better so naturally he inflicted some pain on the San Diego Padres. The Colorado Rockies' center fielder smacked a two-run homer Friday to increase his career-best total to 24 and looks for another productive outing against the host Padres on Saturday.
Texas at LA Angels 9:05 PM ET
Cole Hamels has experienced back-to-back awful outings and the left-hander aims to return to form when the Texas Rangers visit the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game set. Hamels allowed 13 runs in six innings in the two rough starts against Seattle, including a dreadful turn Monday when he gave up seven runs and seven hits in 1 2/3 innings.
