Preview Roundups
September 06, 2015
Tampa Bay at NY Yankees 1:05 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays look to win their second straight road series Sunday when they take on the New York Yankees, and the right person will be on the mound. Chris Archer is 5-0 in his career against the Yankees and has limited them to two runs with 16 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings this season despite a pair of no-decisions.
Baltimore at Toronto 1:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays are still in first place in the American League East and are attempting to pad their lead before hitting the road. The Blue Jays will try to close out a nine-game homestand on a high note by taking the rubber match of a three-game series from the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
Cleveland at Detroit 1:08 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers aim for their first series win against an American League opponent in nearly a month when they take on the visiting Cleveland Indians in the rubber match of a three-game set Sunday afternoon. The slumping Tigers are 1-8 in their last nine series with the one winning set coming in a two-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs last month.
Milwaukee at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
The visiting Milwaukee Brewers can clinch a season series against the Cincinnati Reds for the first time since 2006 when the National League Central rivals meet Sunday afternoon. The Brewers have scored at least four times in eight straight contests, registering a total of 40 runs while winning six straight games, and improved to 9-6 versus the Reds in 2015.
NY Mets at Miami 1:10 PM ET
The Washington Nationals are finally stringing together some wins after a rough stretch, but the New York Mets have no intention of letting them back into the race in the National League East. The Mets will try to increase their lead in the division when they visit the Miami Marlins for the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday.
Philadelphia at Boston 1:35 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies’ young starting pitchers are having a hard time controlling the Boston Red Sox’s young hitters. The Phillies will give another rookie starter a shot when they try to avoid a three-game sweep at the Red Sox on Sunday.
Atlanta at Washington 1:35 PM ET
Trailing the division leader by five games in early September is not a great place to be, but the Washington Nationals have discovered enough consistent offensive production to keep within striking distance of first place in the National League East. Washington has won four games in a row and six of its past eight entering Sunday’s home contest with the Atlanta Braves, who have allowed 28 runs to the Nationals in the first three games of the series.
Chi. White Sox at Kansas City 2:10 PM ET
Although their lead in the American League Central appears safe, the Kansas City Royals would love for right-hander Johnny Cueto to rediscover his form before the stretch run. Cueto looks to end a personal slump and help the Royals avoid their first sweep at home all season when he takes on the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
Minnesota at Houston 2:10 PM ET
Houston Astros ace Dallas Keuchel looks to continue his dominance at Minute Maid Park on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins, who are 7-2 over their last nine games away from home. Keuchel has won 13 straight decisions at home dating back to last year for the Astros, who lead the American League West by two games over Texas.
Arizona at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs surpassed last year’s home win total last time out and have been difficult to beat of late at Wrigley Field. The Cubs will get one more chance to continue their incredible play at home before embarking on a pivotal 11-game road trip when they eye a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Texas at LA Angels 3:35 PM ET
The Texas Rangers are getting comfortable holding down the final wild-card spot in the American League, but they don't want to settle for that as they meet Los Angeles at Angel Stadium on Sunday in the rubber match of their three-game series. Texas has won seven of its last nine contests after a 2-1 victory Saturday and leads Minnesota by 1 1/2 games for the second wild card but is within two of first-place Houston in the AL West with seven left against its Lone Star State rival.
Seattle at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
Seattle and Oakland continue to play out the string in their disappointing seasons when the visiting Mariners go for a three-game sweep Sunday as the Athletics sink to a level they haven't experienced in 18 years. Oakland (58-78) is 20 games below .500 for the first time since 1997 - when they finished 65-97 - and pitching is a big reason why, as its starters are 2-13 with a 5.76 ERA over the last 23 contests.
San Francisco at Colorado 4:10 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants attempt to post consecutive wins for the first time in more than a week when they visit the National League West-rival Colorado Rockies on Sunday for the finale of their four-game set. San Francisco looks to earn a split of the series after recording a 7-4 triumph Saturday, when Angel Pagan and Gregor Blanco belted solo homers while Matt Duffy and Nick Noonan drove in two runs apiece.
LA Dodgers at San Diego 4:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to continue their surge toward a division title when they visit the National League West-rival San Diego Padres for the finale of their four-game set Sunday. After dropping the series opener, Los Angeles posted its second straight victory Saturday - a 2-0 triumph that allowed it to maintain a 7 1/2-game division lead over second-place San Francisco.
Pittsburgh at St. Louis 8:05 PM ET
The opportunities are starting to dwindle for the Pittsburgh Pirates to make a push to win the National League Central, and recent history suggests they’ll have a hard time pulling any closer to the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend. Regardless, the Pirates try to earn a rare series victory in St. Louis on Sunday, when they square off against the Cardinals in the rubber match of their three-game set.
