San Diego at Atlanta 12:10 PM ET
Atlanta and the San Diego Padres are both playing out the string in lost seasons, but it’s the Braves that are looking like they have a brighter future of late. Atlanta will try to pull off a three-game sweep when they host the Padres in the series finale on Thursday.
Miami at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets used a surge over the final six weeks last season to take the National League East crown and advance all the way to the World Series. The NL East might be out of reach, but the Mets are advancing toward a playoff berth again and will go for a four-game sweep of the visiting Miami Marlins on Thursday.
San Francisco at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET
Jeff Samardzija was sent packing by the Chicago Cubs in the summer of 2014 when the franchise was still in rebuilding mode. The San Francisco Giants' right-hander will get a close-up look at some of his former teammates on Thursday when he takes the mound at Wrigley Field for the first time since the trade in the opener of a four-game series between potential playoff opponents.
Chi. White Sox at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins will be trying to avoid matching the worst losing streak in team history when they host the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in the opener of a four-game series. Minnesota's dismal skid reached 13 straight games -- the worst in the majors this season -- when it dropped an 8-4 decision to the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.
