Colorado at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
Left-hander Francisco Liriano looks to run his unbeaten streak to 11 starts when he takes the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday in the opener of a three-game series versus the visiting Colorado Rockies. Liriano has tailed off a bit during August but hasn't tasted defeat since a 6-0 setback at Washington on June 20.
Miami at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals are hoping two extra days of rest will pay dividends for ace Max Scherzer when they host the Miami Marlins on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series. Scherzer has won only once in seven starts since the All-Star break - against Miami - and had Wednesday's scheduled start pushed back so he can face the New York Mets twice over the last month.
San Diego at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies attempt to bounce back from a brutal series when they host the San Diego Padres on Friday in the opener of their three-game set. Philadelphia began its seven-game homestand by dropping four straight meetings with the National League East-leading New York Mets, getting outscored 40-21 in the process.
Detroit at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays look to rebound from a rare misstep when they begin a nine-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers on Friday. Edwin Encarnacion had an RBI double to extend his career-high hitting streak to 22 games, but Toronto suffered a 4-1 setback to Texas to snap a five-game winning streak with their fifth loss in 26 contests.
Boston at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets will look to extend the longest active winning streak in the major leagues when they begin a three-game series against visiting Boston on Friday. A two-run double by Daniel Murphy in the top of the 13th inning helped lift the Mets past Philadelphia on Thursday and gave the first-place club its seventh straight win - all on the road.
LA Angels at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels are trying to build some momentum to stay in the American League wild-card race. The Angels will try to get a jump on their second straight series victory when they visit the Cleveland Indians in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.
Kansas City at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
Ben Zobrist finally will get a chance to play against his former team when the Kansas City Royals visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday to begin a three-game series. Zobrist was injured earlier this season when Oakland visited Tampa Bay, where he became a two-time All Star, and he missed meeting the Rays two more times when he was traded to Kansas City on July 28.
NY Yankees at Atlanta 7:35 PM ET
The New York Yankees are letting the American League East slip away and are searching for answers to some sudden problems on both sides of the ball. The Yankees will try to break out of their funk when they open a six-game road trip with a visit to the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
Baltimore at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers are clinging to the second wild card in the American League while the sputtering Baltimore Orioles now find themselves among a handful of teams nipping at their heels. The Rangers look to strengthen their tenuous grip on the final postseason spot on Friday when they open a three-game series against the visiting Orioles.
Seattle at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox look to knock off Seattle for the fourth time in eight days when they host the Mariners in Friday's second contest of a four-game set. Chicago scored 23 runs while taking two of three in Seattle last weekend and posted a 4-2 victory in Thursday's series opener.
Houston at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros look to increase their lead in the American League West when they open a three-game set Friday against the host Minnesota Twins. Houston, which has won seven of its last nine games, holds a five-game lead over the Texas Rangers and a 5 1/2-game edge over the Los Angeles Angels.
Cincinnati at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
While the other three teams in the National League Central are fighting over postseason positioning, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds are trying to decide which team will finish in the basement. The Reds will try to climb out of that bottom spot when they visit the Brewers for the opener of a three-game series on Friday.
Oakland at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks look to avoid a fifth consecutive loss when they host the Oakland Athletics on Friday in the opener of their three-game interleague series. After completing a four-game sweep in Cincinnati, Arizona suffered the exact same fate in its home set against St. Louis that concluded with a 5-3 setback Thursday.
Chi. Cubs at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Clayton Kershaw is on a roll and looks to win his sixth consecutive decision when the Los Angeles Dodgers open a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday. The All-Star left-hander has allowed one or fewer runs in nine of his past 10 outings while lowering his ERA from 3.33 to 2.29.
St. Louis at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants continue their difficult stretch against the best teams in the National League Central when they host the first-place St. Louis Cardinals on Friday in the opener of a three-game series. San Francisco sits 2 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West after taking two of three from the Chicago Cubs - including a 9-1 victory Thursday - as they rebounded from a 2-5 trip to St. Louis and Pittsburgh.
