Preview Roundups
July 31, 2015
Detroit at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers' pitching left plenty to be desired in the wake of trading away starter David Price and closer Joakim Soria. After nearly squandering a seven-run lead in the opener, the visiting Tigers vie for their third straight win when they continue their four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
Atlanta at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The majors-worst Philadelphia Phillies have flipped the switch following the All-Star break while the Atlanta Braves continue to spiral out of control. After winning the series opener, the Phillies vie for their 11th victory in 13 outings on Friday when they continue their four-game set versus their visiting National League East rival.
Kansas City at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals’ first big acquisition did not make much of a first impression, but they still have Johnny Cueto ready to debut. Cueto will make his first start for his new team when the Royals visit the Toronto Blue Jays in the second of a four-game series on Friday.
Tampa Bay at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays dropped a game below .500 with a loss on Thursday and are watching the teams around them in the standings make big moves in front of Friday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline. The Rays will try to put some momentum together and rejoin the race when they visit the Boston Red Sox for the start of a three-game series on Friday.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates try to bounce back from their worst beating of the season when they visit the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night in the second of a four-game series. The Pirates surrendered a campaign high in runs in a 15-5 series-opening setback to fall to 2-8 against the Reds this season while dropping their sixth in a row in Cincinnati.
San Diego at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Coming off their best and most dramatic comeback win of the season, the San Diego Padres continue their 10-game road trip when they open a three-game series at the Miami Marlins on Friday. The Padres erased a six-run deficit in Thursday's 8-7 victory over the New York Mets, getting a go-ahead three-run homer from Justin Upton with two outs in the ninth.
Washington at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets had crawled within one game of first place in the National League East earlier in the week but find themselves three back of the first-place Washington Nationals, who come to town Friday for the opener of a three-game series. The Mets must regroup from a crushing defeat, blowing a six-run lead at home for the first time in 45 years in Thursday's 8-7 loss to San Diego.
San Francisco at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants visit the Texas Rangers on Friday for the first time since defeating the Rangers in the 2010 World Series. That was the first of three championships in five seasons for San Francisco, which sends Madison Bumgarner to the mound in the opener of the three-game set that marks the Giants' first regular-season contest in Arlington since 2001.
NY Yankees at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox brought themselves back to the fringe of the wild-card race in the American League by picking on a pair of last-place teams on the road. The White Sox will try to prove they are for real when they return home and welcome the New York Yankees for the start of a three-game series on Friday.
Arizona at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros, fresh off a three-game sweep of American League West-rival Los Angeles, host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday in the opener of a three-game interleague series. Houston leads the Angels by two games in the AL West after Jason Castro's walk-off three-run homer gave the Astros a 3-0 victory Thursday, improving their major league-best home record to 36-17 with their seventh consecutive victory at Minute Maid Park - their longest run at home since winning nine straight in 2008.
Seattle at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins halted a four-game skid in the series opener and attempt to defeat the visiting Seattle Mariners for the second straight night in Friday's second contest of a four-game set. Left fielder Eddie Rosario homered and drove in three runs and fell a single shy of the cycle as Minnesota posted a 9-5 win Thursday for only its third victory in 11 games.
Chi. Cubs at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET

The Chicago Cubs are aiming for their first three-game winning streak in a month as they continue a four-game road series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. The Brewers have lost seven of nine since a four-game winning streak to begin the second half, and their roster continues to take hits as they trade away veteran players ahead of Friday’s non-waiver trading deadline.

Colorado at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals are going to need some offense with seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday (quad strain) expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time. After seeing their bats come alive in the opener, the Cardinals will look to feed off that momentum when they continue their four-game series against the visiting Colorado Rockies on Friday.
Cleveland at Oakland 9:35 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics' latest losing skid has dropped them to the bottom of the American League standings entering Friday's contest with the visiting Cleveland Indians. Oakland was stymied 3-1 in the series opener Thursday for its sixth loss in seven games and is tied with the Boston Red Sox for the league's worst record at 45-58.
LA Angels at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw takes a 29-inning scoreless streak into Friday’s series opener against the Los Angeles Angels, who have lost six of their last seven to fall two games behind first-place Houston in the AL West. Kershaw had Wednesday’s scheduled start pushed back due to hip soreness, but the three-time Cy Young award winner has been cleared for the Freeway Series.
