Preview Roundups
July 28, 2015
Atlanta at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
Baltimore Orioles general manager Dan Duquette made it clear to reporters Monday: his club is looking to buy in advance of Friday’s trade deadline. The Orioles play host to the Atlanta Braves in the middle contest of a three-game series Tuesday, and Duquette reiterated that he envisions the defending American League East champions making moves at the deadline geared toward improving his team’s postseason chances.
Philadelphia at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly one of a few potential playoff teams interested in dealing for Philadelphia closer Jonathan Papelbon before Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline. With the way the Phillies are playing since the All-Star break, the Blue Jays could get a pair of looks at the reliever starting Tuesday when they host the first of two interleague contests with Philadelphia.
Chi. White Sox at Boston 7:10 PM ET
Jeff Samardzija is on the short list of best starters available at the July 31 trade deadline but is still on the Chicago White Sox roster and is expected to make his start on Tuesday. The White Sox will have a backup plan in the event of a trade when they visit the Boston Red Sox in the second of a four-game series on Tuesday.
Kansas City at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals are running away with the American League Central and are taking advantage of the stumbling Cleveland Indians. The Royals will go for their fourth straight win and try to hand the host Indians a sixth consecutive defeat when they meet in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.
Detroit at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
Evan Longoria is beginning to find his best form at the right time for the Tampa Bay Rays after recording four doubles and homer during a five-game hitting streak. The talented third baseman will try to stay hot as the Rays host former teammate David Price and the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday in the second of a three-game set.
Washington at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Jose Fernandez looks to improve on a stunning 14-0 career record at home when his Miami Marlins take on the National League East-leading Washington Nationals on Tuesday to start a three-game series. Fernandez recorded one of three Miami victories on its 10-game road trip after the All-Star break and has allowed one earned run in 20 career innings against the Nationals.
San Diego at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets showed their willingness to buy at the trade deadline over the weekend when they acquired a couple of versatile veteran hitters, each of whom took turns helping them earn a split in their last series. The San Diego Padres may be willing to go from potential sellers to buyers based on their recent performance and how they fare in New York beginning on Tuesday when they open a three-game set with the Mets.
NY Yankees at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers are moving in opposite directions in the standings, causing their front offices to consider different options for the upcoming trade deadline. The Rangers will try to give their top brass something positive to consider by evening the four-game series at one win apiece when they host the Yankees on Tuesday.
Colorado at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET

The Colorado Rockies on Tuesday play their first game without shortstop Troy Tulowitzki when they visit the Chicago Cubs after the face of the franchise and five-time All-Star was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays late Monday in a stunning move. Colorado received four-time All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes and minor leaguers - including top pitching prospect Miguel Castro - for Tulowitzki and 42-year-old reliever LaTroy Hawkins.
LA Angels at Houston 8:10 PM ET
Prior to the season, not many would have believed that the three-game series between the Los Angeles Angels and host Houston Astros beginning Tuesday could have significant American League West championship implications. But that's the case as Los Angeles leads upstart Houston by one game in the division while the Astros are five games clear in the wild card race as they continue their remarkable turnaround after averaging 104 losses over the last four years.
Pittsburgh at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins try to rediscover their home dominance while keeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in trouble on the road when the wild-card contenders begin an interleague series Tuesday. Minnesota dropped two of three to the New York Yankees at Target Field over the weekend but still own 32 victories at home, tied for the third-most in the American League and remains in the second wild card spot.
Cincinnati at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET

Mike Leake might be making his final start for the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday - if he isn’t traded before he takes the mound. Leake is slated to pitch when the Reds continue their three-game road series against the St. Louis Cardinals, but he’s one of the most coveted starting pitchers on the trade market with Friday’s deadline approaching.

Oakland at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
As they approach what figures to be an active trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to avoid their first three-game winning streak in more than a month when they begin a two-game series with Oakland on Tuesday. The first-place Dodgers, who dropped the last two games at the New York Mets over the weekend, are expected to be key players approaching the deadline, especially when it comes to big-name starting pitchers.
Arizona at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks look to extend their winning streak to four games when they visit the Seattle Mariners for the middle contest of their three-game series Tuesday. The Mariners continue to fade in the American League West as they sit 10 games behind the first-place Los Angeles Angels and are seven games out of a wild-card spot with six other teams ahead of them.
Milwaukee at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants attempt to continue their torrid stretch when they host the Milwaukee Brewers in the middle contest of their three-game series on Tuesday. San Francisco swept a three-game series against Philadelphia prior to the All-Star Game and has been even hotter since the break, winning nine of 10 contests.
