Preview Roundups
July 08, 2015
Baltimore at Minnesota 1:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins look to complete a three-game sweep of Baltimore when they host the Orioles on Wednesday afternoon. Minnesota hasn't swept a series since May 25-27 versus the Boston Red Sox and will be hard-pressed to do so as it faces Ubaldo Jimenez, who is in the midst of a hot streak.
Atlanta at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves did not intend on A.J. Pierzynski serving as their primary catcher, but the veteran backstop has asserted himself as a key part of the Braves’ surprising success. Atlanta aims for a series sweep on Wednesday at the Milwaukee Brewers and Pierzynski comes into the finale with 10 hits in his past 13 at-bats.
Detroit at Seattle 3:40 PM ET
Robinson Cano has experienced a dismal first half but is starting to get his bat moving as the Seattle Mariners close a three-game series against the visiting Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Cano has consecutive two-hit games in the series and was the hero Tuesday when his RBI single in the 11th inning provided Seattle with a 7-6 victory.
NY Mets at San Francisco 3:45 PM ET
Hunter Pence’s early return from the disabled list Tuesday provided instant results for the San Francisco Giants, who snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the visiting New York Mets. The energetic Pence will surely be in the lineup again Wednesday as the teams meet in the rubber match of the three-game series.
Oakland at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees remain on top in the American League East, but some recent offensive woes have been an issue. The Yankees will try to get back on track Wednesday when they continue a three-game series against the visiting Oakland Athletics.
Cincinnati at Washington 7:05 PM ET
Joey Votto was a notable admission from the National League All-Star roster and is taking out his frustration over that decision on the Washington Nationals. Votto and the Cincinnati Reds aim for a three-game sweep when they visit the Nationals in the finale on Wednesday.
San Diego at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates appear to have finally solved their biggest nemesis at home and will try to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. The Pirates had lost 14 straight home series to San Diego before posting consecutive one-run victories to extend their winning streak to four games.
Miami at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox don’t believe they are out of the race in the American League East, and Xander Bogaerts is a big reason for the positive feelings. Bogaerts will try to lead the Red Sox to a fourth straight win and a two-game sweep of the visiting Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Houston at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
Cleveland Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer owns a sub-.500 record during his brief major-league career, but he has been nearly untouchable in two starts against the Houston Astros. Bauer has held Houston scoreless for 12 innings and looks to make it three straight wins over the visiting Astros on Wednesday in the third of a four-game series.
Arizona at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks’ All-Stars outperformed the Texas Rangers’ All-Stars, for one night at least. Prince Fielder will try not to let that happen again when the Rangers host the Diamondbacks in the finale of a two-game interleague series on Wednesday.
St. Louis at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs look to follow up a doubleheader sweep with a series victory when they host the Central Division-leading St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The Cubs, who have struggled offensively in the past few weeks, posted 12 runs combined to take the twinbill Tuesday and boast seven victories in their last nine contests.
Toronto at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
Josh Donaldson admitted to being "kind of mind blown" after earning an All-Star berth with the highest vote total in major-league history, but the Toronto Blue Jays third baseman is not resting on his laurels. Donaldson has homered in back-to-back games for Toronto, which continues its four-game series against the host Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
Tampa Bay at Kansas City 8:10 PM ET
Alex Gordon was having a quiet season until Saturday, one day before the fans voted him in as an American League starter in next week’s All-Star Game. The standout left fielder is 9-for-15 with seven RBIs in his last four contests and looks to stay hot when his Kansas City Royals on Wednesday go after their fourth consecutive victory against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays.
LA Angels at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels are hitting their best stride and it's no surprise that their All-Stars - Mike Trout and Albert Pujols - are leading the way. Los Angeles tries for its fifth straight victory while continuing its mastery of Colorado when it visits the Rockies on Wednesday in the finale of a two-game series.
Philadelphia at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
It was a surprise to many when Los Angeles' Clayton Kershaw was not named to the National League All-Star team even though he has a sub.-500 record and an ERA more than one run higher at this point compared to last year. The three-time Cy Young Award winner, who leads the NL with 147 strikeouts and still has two chances to appear in the Midsummer Classic, tries to snap a five-start winless streak when the Dodgers host the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.
