Preview Roundups
July 03, 2015
Miami at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs take some momentum into a 10-game homestand, which begins with the first of three against the Miami Marlins on Friday afternoon. The Cubs permitted just one run during a three-game sweep at the New York Mets – capped by a 6-1 triumph on Thursday – and stand alone in the second wild-card spot in the National League.
San Francisco at Washington 6:05 PM ET
Jake Peavy returns to the rotation for the first time in 2 1/2 months when the San Francisco Giants continue their six-game road trip at the Washington Nationals on Friday night. Peavy will face a difficult task in his first start since April 17, trying to cool off a club that has won nine of 12 overall and six straight games at home.
Cleveland at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates own the second-best record in the National League and continue their pursuit of Central Division-leading St. Louis when they host the resurgent Cleveland Indians on Friday in the opener of a three-game interleague series. The Pirates are riding high after a three-game sweep in Detroit and play their next 10 at home, capped by a four-game series against the Cardinals heading into the All-Star break.
Tampa Bay at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays sure aren't playing like contenders, although both clubs remain in the thick of the race in the American League East. The division rivals look to put an end to their troubles at the other's expense when they open a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Friday.
Toronto at Detroit 7:08 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers can drop below .500 for the first time this season when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series. The Tigers' struggles at home continued with a three-game sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who bludgeoned Detroit's pitching staff for 22 runs and 49 hits.
Houston at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros blew right past a fellow first-place team this week and own the most wins in the American League. The Astros will try to keep up that intensity when they take a step down and open a three-game series at a last-place team in the host Boston Red Sox on Friday.
Milwaukee at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers figure to have plenty of attention from opposing teams as they kick off a three-game series in Cincinnati on Friday. The Reds and the Brewers are expected to be big sellers at the upcoming trade deadline and are showcasing all available assets over the next four weeks.
Philadelphia at Atlanta 7:35 PM ET
Julio Teheran won 14 games to help the Atlanta Braves win the National League East two years ago, and he followed up with 14 victories last season. But as the Braves host the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday looking to stay close in the East, they desperately need Teheran to resemble a top-of-the-rotation starter and not the inconsistent pitcher they have seen far too often in 2015.
LA Angels at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels are going through some turmoil in the front office but are trending in the right direction on the field. The Angels try for their fifth win in six games when they kick off a nine-game road trip that will take them through the All-Star break at the Texas Rangers on Friday.
Baltimore at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox look to carry the momentum of sweeping baseball's best team into Friday's opener of a three-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles. The American League Central cellar-dwelling White Sox brushed aside St. Louis in an abbreviated two-game interleague set to improve to 6-4 in their last 10 contests.
Minnesota at Kansas City 8:10 PM ET
The slumping Kansas City Royals hope to halt a four-game losing streak when they meet the visiting Minnesota Twins in Friday's second contest of a four-game series. Kansas City has scored six runs during its slump and Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Twins was its second shutout defeat in three games.
San Diego at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
After running roughshod over their opponents at Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Cardinals look to snap a three-game home losing skid on Friday when they continue their four-game series against the San Diego Padres. St. Louis, which dropped a 5-3 decision in 11 innings on Thursday, has mustered just five runs during its skid after outscoring its foes by a 30-9 margin while winning six in a row.
Seattle at Oakland 9:05 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics have the opportunity to move out of the American League West cellar when they host the Seattle Mariners in Friday's second contest of a four-game series. Oakland posted a 4-0 victory in the opener to move within a half-game of fourth-place Seattle and can trade spots with the Mariners with another victory.
Colorado at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks tentatively ended a tailspin and look to make it consecutive victories over Colorado when they host the Rockies in Friday's second contest of a four-game set. Arizona had lost five of seven games before racking up five extra-base hits while recording an 8-1 win in the series opener.
NY Mets at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The New York Mets finally scored a run on Thursday to put an end to their recent offensive ineptitude, but could find it hard to repeat that meager output as they travel across the country to square off against a three-time National League Cy Young Award winner that has dominated them. Clayton Kershaw looks to end the first three-game losing streak of his eight-year career on Friday as the Los Angeles Dodgers begin a 10-game homestand against the Mets.
