St. Louis at San Francisco 3:45 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants traded shutouts in the first two games of the series, with struggling offenses just as much a factor as the strong pitching. The Giants will attempt to salvage a series win when they host the Cardinals for the rubber match Thursday. St. Louis has not scored more than three runs in any of its last six games but needed only two to overcome San Francisco on Wednesday.
Philadelphia at Miami 6:10 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies' lack of offense has cemented their status as cellar dwellers in the National League East. After being shut out for the 11th time this season, the Phillies look to avoid a season-high seventh consecutive loss and salvage the finale of a three-game series when they visit the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Ben Revere and Jimmy Rollins combined for four of the team's five hits as Philadelphia fell a season-high 12 games under .500 following a 5-0 setback on Wednesday.
Arizona at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
After clinching their fourth straight series victory, the Pittsburgh Pirates vie for their first sweep of the season on Thursday as they conclude a three-game set versus the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Rookie Gregory Polanco belted a two-run homer to extend his torrid stretch of reaching base to 19 in 21 games as Pittsburgh cruised to a 5-1 triumph on Wednesday. Starling Marte, who had an RBI double in the contest, has hit safely in all 12 games in his career versus the Diamondbacks.
Texas at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles look to complete a sweep when they host the Texas Rangers in the finale of their four-game series Thursday. After winning the first two games of the set, Baltimore appeared to be on its way to a loss Wednesday as it fell behind 4-0 after three innings. But Adam Jones began the comeback with a solo homer in the fourth and the Orioles scored three runs in the sixth to tie it before Ryan Flaherty led off the seventh with a blast to put Baltimore ahead to stay.
Tampa Bay at Detroit 7:08 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers survived an ugly monthlong stretch and are hitting their stride as they continue an 11-game homestand Thursday with the first of four games against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Tigers have won 11 of 13 and are coming off a three-game sweep of Oakland, which owns the best record in baseball. Detroit, losers of 20 of 29 before the current hot spell, will send reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer to the mound in the series opener.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 8:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers try to regain the momentum that carried them briefly into first place in the National League West when they visit the struggling Colorado Rockies on Thursday to begin a four-game series. Los Angeles led San Francisco by one-half game after defeating Cleveland on Monday in the opener of a three-game set but dropped the final two - including a 5-4 loss on Wednesday as the bullpen couldn't hold a lead - to fall back into second place behind the Giants.
NY Yankees at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
Masahiro Tanaka has justified the New York Yankees' decision to lavish a $155 million contract on him and will go for his major league-best 12th win Thursday in the opener of a four-game series at the Minnesota Twins. More importantly for the Yankees, they will need the Japanese standout to halt a season-worst five-game skid that has dropped them below .500 for the first time since April 11. New York has lost nine of 11 as it kicks off an 11-game road trip.
Toronto at Oakland 9:05 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics look to bounce back from a three-game sweep in Detroit when they open a four-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday in their second consecutive series against an American League division leader. The Athletics still own the best record in the majors and will be out to avenge a three-game sweep in Toronto in late May. Getting off the road should provide a lift for Oakland, which has won 10 of its last 13 at home.
Houston at LA Angels 10:05 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels came up even on a six-game road trip but have a chance to make a move in the standings with the next seven at home. The Angels will kick off that homestand by hosting the Houston Astros on Thursday. Los Angeles had a chance to sweep a three-game set in Chicago on Wednesday, but Mike Morin allowed the winning run in the bottom of the ninth in the 3-2 setback.
