Preview Roundups
June 27, 2016
LA Dodgers at Pittsburgh 12:35 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates attempt to complete their eight-game homestand with a four-game sweep when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday afternoon. Pittsburgh began its stretch at PNC Park with a 1-0 triumph over San Francisco but surrendered 27 runs over the next three contests - all losses - before registering 18 over three straight wins against Los Angeles.
Texas at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers are looking very much like the best team in the American League and they have the record to prove it. The Rangers just got done picking off one AL East team and will try for another when they open a 10-game road trip by visiting the New York Yankees on Monday for the first of four contests.
NY Mets at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The New York Mets and Washington Nationals will look to ignite their sputtering offenses at the other's expense on Monday when the National League East rivals open a three-game series in the nation's capital. New York mustered its only offense in the ninth inning of Sunday's 5-2 setback to the Atlanta Braves, falling to 4-5 with only 24 runs scored in that nine-game stretch.
Boston at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays were hanging around the edge of the .500 mark and threatening to get back into the race in the American League East two weeks ago, but have since fallen off a cliff. The Rays will try to snap an 11-game slide when they host the Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Cleveland at Atlanta 7:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians are the hottest team in baseball with wins in nine straight games and have started to pull away from the pack in the American League Central. The Indians will try to make it 10 in a row when they visit one of the worst teams in the majors for the start of a three-game interleague series against the Atlanta Braves on Monday.
Chi. Cubs at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs may be providing a glimmer of hope to the National League after being unable to continue their best start to a season in over 100 years, but hope is about the only thing the Cincinnati Reds have had in their corner against their division rivals this campaign. Jake Arrieta will try to extend his team's recent mastery in this series Monday, when Chicago travels to Cincinnati for the opener of a three-game set.
St. Louis at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
Despite competing in opposite leagues, the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals have much more in common than meets the eye, including an identical record and some surprising pitching problems. The Royals put their major league-best home record on the line Monday as they open a four-game, home-and-home interleague set against one of the majors' top road clubs in the Cardinals in the latest edition of the I-70 Series.
Toronto at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
Troy Tulowitzki returns to the familiar surroundings of Coors Field on Monday as the veteran shortstop leads the Toronto Blue Jays into the opener of a three-game interleague series versus the Colorado Rockies. The 31-year-old Tulowitzki, who played in parts of 10 seasons with the Rockies, joined veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins in being shipped to Toronto in a late-night, blockbuster deal 11 months ago for Jose Reyes and a trio of right-handed pitching prospects.
Philadelphia at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
After beginning their recent road trip by thrashing the Philadelphia Phillies, the Arizona Diamondbacks look to start a nine-game homestand in much the same manner as the clubs play the opener of their three-game set on Monday. Arizona outscored Philadelphia by a lopsided 22-5 margin during a four-game sweep at Citizens Bank Park on June 17-20 and wrapped up a 7-3 road trip with a 9-7 setback at Colorado on Sunday.
Houston at LA Angels 10:05 PM ET
Their seven-game winning streak is over, but the Houston Astros will try to extend another run when they open a three-game series at the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. The Astros have won five straight - all by three runs or fewer - against their American League West foes, sweeping three straight from the Angels at home last week.
Oakland at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
After taking three of four from the Los Angeles Angels to begin their road trip, the Oakland Athletics wrap it up against one of the hottest teams in baseball as they begin a four-game, home-and-home series against the Giants in San Francisco on Monday. Oakland was in line to sweep the Angels as it held a four-run lead after six innings before surrendering five over the final three frames for a 7-6 defeat.
