Preview Roundups
June 23, 2015
Philadelphia at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies have a chance to secure their first series win against an American League East opponent in nearly four years when they visit the New York Yankees for the middle contest of their three-game set Tuesday. Philadelphia, which hasn't claimed a series versus an AL East foe since July 1-3, 2011 against Toronto, took the first step by outlasting New York 11-8 in Monday's opener.
Atlanta at Washington 7:05 PM ET
Bryce Harper came out swinging after sitting out one game due to injury and the Washington Nationals are hoping for similar results when another of their former No. 1 overall draft picks makes his return. Stephen Strasburg is expected to be activated off the 15-day disabled list when the Nationals open a three-game series against the visiting Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
After mustering little offensively in their last series, the Pittsburgh Pirates face an uphill climb against Johnny Cueto and the visiting Cincinnati Reds when the National League Central rivals begin a three-game set at PNC Park on Tuesday. Cueto owns a scintillating 18-4 mark with a 2.13 ERA in 28 career meetings with the Pirates, who were no-hit by Max Scherzer on Saturday as part of a three-game sweep at the hands of Washington.
Baltimore at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox are coming off their best offensive showing of the season over the weekend, but even that performance would have fallen well short of what they needed the last time they saw the Baltimore Orioles. Winners of three of their last four, the Red Sox look to continue digging themselves out of the American League East cellar on Tuesday when they host the opener of a three-game set against the Orioles.
Detroit at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers attempt to continue their offensive assault when they visit the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game series. After being held to a total of five runs in back-to-back losses at New York, Detroit erupted for 12 in Sunday's victory over the Yankees and scored eight more in a triumph in the opener against Cleveland.
Toronto at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
There isn’t likely to be a second straight slugfest with the quality of pitchers on the mound Tuesday as the Tampa Bay Rays host the Toronto Blue Jays in the second of a three-game series. Chris Archer goes after his sixth consecutive victory for the Rays against former National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey, following Toronto’s 8-5 triumph Monday.
St. Louis at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Miami Marlins certainly welcomed a break in their schedule after playing 17 games in as many days, but their task ahead remains daunting. The Marlins begin a nine-game homestand by facing three heavyweights, including the opener of a three-game series against the National League Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
Oakland at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers were eight games under .500 early last month before a 28-14 stretch helped propel them into second place in the American League West. The Oakland Athletics, who find themselves 10 games under the break-even mark entering the opener of a three-game at Texas on Tuesday, appear to be attempting a similar feat.
LA Dodgers at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET

The Chicago Cubs take their longest winning streak in more than a month into the second contest of their four-game series with the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. The Cubs have won three straight after opening the set with a 4-2 victory behind a pair of home runs by rookie Kris Bryant.

Chi. White Sox at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
Highly touted Minnesota center fielder Byron Buxton is coming off his best performance in nine games in the major leagues and looks to follow it up when the Twins host the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. Buxton went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and threw out a runner at the plate as Minnesota trounced Chicago 13-2 on Monday in the opener of the three-game set.
NY Mets at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
The New York Mets hope to locate their missing offense as they wrap up their pronounced road trip by beginning a three-game series against the struggling Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. The Mets have mustered all of six runs en route to losing the first five contests of their eight-game trek, with Sunday's 1-0 loss to Atlanta marking the second time they have been blanked on the trip.
Arizona at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks outscored Colorado 43-19 in winning four of five games this season and try to continue their domination of the Rockies when they visit Coors Field on Tuesday for the opener of a three-game series. Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who leads the majors with a .356 batting average, is 11-for-24 with a home run, two doubles and six RBIs versus Colorado this season and has helped the Diamondbacks (34-35) win seven of their last 10 games.
Houston at LA Angels 10:05 PM ET
Albert Pujols tortures the Houston Astros like no other club and was at again in the opener of a three-game series. The Los Angeles first baseman slugged two homers and drove in three runs in the host Angels' 4-3 victory on Monday to raise his career homer count against Houston to 48, snapping a tie with Hall of Famer Hank Aaron (46) for the most against the Astros.
Kansas City at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals became the fourth team in the majors to reach 40 victories by winning the series opener against Seattle and seek to add to their total when they visit the Mariners on Tuesday. Kansas City maintained its 3 1/2-game lead over Minnesota in the American League Central by defeating Seattle ace Felix Hernandez en route to a 4-1 win Monday.
San Diego at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner will attempt to avoid losing three consecutive starts for the first time in nearly a year when he takes the mound Tuesday night against the visiting San Diego Padres. It is the opener of a six-game homestand for San Francisco, which had a three-game winning streak snapped in Sunday's series finale versus the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
