Preview Roundups
June 18, 2017
Chi. White Sox at Toronto 1:07 PM ET
James Shields makes his first start in more than two months Sunday when the visiting Chicago White Sox try for their 10th victory in the last 11 meetings and a three-game sweep over the Toronto Blue Jays. Shields hopes to get more support from Matt Davidson, who homered for the fifth time in the past six games in Saturday's 5-2 victory which gave Chicago (31-36) - last in the American League Central, but within striking distance of first - three straight victories and five wins in six games.
LA Dodgers at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching staff is doing an impressive job of holding down the powerful offense of the Cincinnati Reds, setting the team up for a three-game sweep. The Dodgers will try to complete the sweep behind Kenta Maeda when they visit the Reds for the finale on Sunday.
Washington at NY Mets 1:10 PM ET
The Washington Nationals attempt to complete a four-game sweep and remain unbeaten at Citi Field this season when they visit the New York Mets on Sunday for the series finale between the National League East rivals. Washington has posted 22 runs in the first three games of the set, including a 7-4 triumph Saturday with three more homers, and is 6-0 at New York in 2017.
Tampa Bay at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
Right-hander Jacob Faria can become the second Tampa Bay pitcher in franchise history to win his first three starts when the Rays visit the Detroit Tigers for the finale of a four-game series on Sunday afternoon. Faria, a former 10th-round pick in 2011, allowed just two runs combined in his first two major-league starts and can equal the mark of Jeremy Hellickson, who won his first three games with the Rays in 2010.
Chi. Cubs at Pittsburgh 1:35 PM ET
In the midst of one of the worst slumps of his career, Gregory Polanco picked a fine time to come alive - and may have saved his job in the process. Polanco will try to string together multi-hit performances for the first time this season Sunday, when his Pittsburgh Pirates attempt to take the rubber match of their three-game series against the visiting Chicago Cubs.
Miami at Atlanta 1:35 PM ET
Matt Adams is a man who most likely will not have a position once Freddie Freeman returns from the disabled list, but the Atlanta Braves’ fill-in first baseman continues producing as they prepare to host the Miami Marlins in Sunday’s series finale. Buried on the Cardinals’ bench before being traded to Atlanta when Freeman was lost to a fractured wrist, Adams is hitting .308 in 26 games with his new team after going 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs in Saturday’s 8-7 victory.
St. Louis at Baltimore 1:35 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles apparently got sick of being pounded on and decided to turn the tables. The Orioles will try to get just enough from their pitching staff to support the offense and earn an interleague series win when they host the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game set.
Arizona at Philadelphia 1:35 PM ET
Colorado and the Los Angeles Dodgers refuse to lose, so the Arizona Diamondbacks are doing the same in order to keep pace atop the National League West. The Diamondbacks will go for their seventh consecutive victory and a three-game sweep when they visit the major league-worst Philadelphia Phillies for the series finale on Sunday.
Cleveland at Minnesota 2:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians attempt to match their longest winning streak of the season when they visit the Minnesota Twins on Sunday for the finale of their four-game series. Cleveland seeks its fifth consecutive triumph after outscoring Minnesota 15-5 while sweeping Saturday's doubleheader.
San Diego at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers are hitting home runs at a franchise-record pace, but the San Diego Padres are matching them in the long-ball department this weekend. With the first two games of the series decided by home runs in extra innings, the Brewers host the Padres on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of a three-game set.
Seattle at Texas 3:05 PM ET
The surging Texas Rangers have amassed 10 runs in back-to-back games, an offensive eruption that coincided with the return of Mike Napoli and Carlos Gomez from the disabled list on Friday. Texas goes for its eighth victory in nine games and looks to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
San Francisco at Colorado 3:10 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies look to continue their dominance of the last-place San Francisco Giants when the teams complete a four-game series in Denver on Sunday. With the 5-1 victory in Saturday's meeting, the Rockies own a 9-1 mark against their National League West rivals, which includes a 6-0 record at home.
Kansas City at LA Angels 3:37 PM ET
Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia’s patience with Cameron Maybin has been rewarded with the veteran center fielder finding a home in the leadoff spot. Maybin looks to continue his hot hitting Sunday as the Angels aim for a split of their four-game series against the visiting Kansas City Royals, who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday.
NY Yankees at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees will try to salvage the finale of a difficult road trip when they cap a four-game series at the Oakland Athletics on Sunday. The Athletics have taken the first three games of the series to extend the Yankees' losing streak to a season-high five, which have come by a combined eight runs.
Boston at Houston 8:05 PM ET
The Houston Astros could not solve the riddle of the Boston Red Sox's bullpen in a series-opening loss, so they promptly made it a non-issue the very next night by roughing up the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner. The Astros look to string together consecutive victories for the first time since putting the final touches on their 11-game winning streak early last week when they host the Red Sox on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game set.
