The New York Yankees limped home from a nine-game road trip and look to get back on track when they host the Texas Rangers on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series. Losers of three straight, New York was in firm control of the American League East before going 2-7 on its trek to fall a half-game behind Tampa Bay.

The New York Mets rode a brilliant pitching performance by Jacob deGrom to salvage a four-game split against National League-best St. Louis and now hope for better luck away from home when they kick off a three-game set at the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. The Mets' last road trip culminated in a four-game sweep by the Chicago Cubs that dropped them to 7-12 away from Citi Field.

The Cincinnati Reds are in the midst of a five-game slide and attempt to halt the tailspin when they visit the Cleveland Indians on Friday in the opener of a three-game interleague set between in-state rivals. The Reds kicked off their five-game road trip by dropping both games at Kansas City while getting outscored 10-1.

The Tampa Bay Rays, who have allowed two or fewer runs in half of their 42 games, attempt to add to that total when they send Chris Archer to the mound against the visiting Oakland Athletics on Friday. The Rays notched their fourth shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory in the opener of the four-game series on Thursday, taking over first place in the American League East in the process.

The San Francisco Giants hope for another stellar pitching effort on Friday as they attempt to extend their winning streak to seven games in the opener of a four-game series against the host Colorado Rockies. San Francisco on Thursday completed a three-game home sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers during which it did not allow a run, outscoring its National League West rival 10-0.
Chi. Cubs at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
Miguel Montero served the Arizona Diamondbacks well for nine seasons before he was dealt to the Chicago Cubs for a pair of minor-league pitchers in the offseason. The two-time All-Star backstop will square off against his former team for the first time since the December trade on Friday when the Cubs open a three-game set in Arizona.
San Diego at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Runs figure to be at a premium Friday when the San Diego Padres begin a three-game series against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers, who haven’t scored in 31 innings. San Diego has dropped five of their last six games and were shutout for the seventh time in Thursday’s 3-0 loss to the Cubs.
