Detroit at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
With three losses in their last four games, the Detroit Tigers are looking to get back on track Monday as they begin a nine-game road trip with the first of three against the Baltimore Orioles. Detroit lost two of three against Minnesota over the weekend, including a disappointing 4-3 setback on Sunday in which the bullpen allowed a run in the seventh and three in the eighth.
NY Mets at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The 18th edition of the Subway Series begins Monday when the New York Yankees host the New York Mets in the first of four straight between the teams, two apiece at their respective home venues. Both enter the series after late-inning drama Sunday, but on very different notes. The Mets scored three times in the ninth and again in the 11th to steal a 5-4 win from Philadelphia while the Yankees dropped a 6-5 decision on a walk-off hit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth at Milwaukee.
LA Angels at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the top run-scoring teams in the American League but have been held in check by the Los Angeles Angels in the last three games. The Blue Jays will try to avoid a four-game sweep when they host the Angels in the series finale on Monday. Toronto is struggling against the Angels’ starting pitchers while getting burned by its own starters after coming into the series riding a five-game winning streak.
Chi. Cubs at St. Louis 8:10 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals wrapped up a tough series at Pittsburgh with a shaky win on Sunday night and have a chance to get a positive streak going when they kick off a 10-game homestand by hosting the Chicago Cubs on Monday. The Cardinals had dropped seven of 11 - including two losses at Chicago - before pulling out a 6-5 win over the Pirates but have some questions about their bullpen going forward. The Cubs are losers of seven of their last eight.
Texas at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The Texas Rangers try to continue their mastery over Houston when they visit the Astros on Monday to begin a three-game series. Texas has won 19 of the last 21 meetings - including a pair of 1-0 victories in a three-game set last month in Arlington and nine straight in Houston (30-16 all-time there and 19-3 since start of 2009) - as well as 15 straight series against the Astros. The Rangers also are 19-3 versus Houston since the Astros moved to the American League West to begin the 2013 season.
Washington at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
Scoring runs has become a major challenge for the Washington Nationals and they’ll try to find a remedy Monday when they open a three-game series against the host Arizona Diamondbacks. The Nationals scored four runs in 28 innings while getting swept by the Oakland Athletics in a three-game series over the weekend. They were completely shut down by left-handers Tommy Milone and Scott Kazmir on Friday and Sunday and blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning of Saturday’s 10-inning loss.
Chi. White Sox at Oakland 10:05 PM ET
John Danks will look to continue his success against Oakland when the Chicago White Sox begin a nine-game road trip with a visit to the Athletics on Monday. The Chicago southpaw is 6-1 with a 2.12 ERA in nine career outings against Oakland, while limiting Athletics’ batters to a collective .222 average. Oakland’s Derek Norris smacked two three-homers in Sunday’s 9-1 victory over Washington and his six RBIs matched the club record by a catcher, tying Mickey Cochrane (1931) and Joe Astroth (1950).
Miami at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Two teams coming off disappointing series meet for the second time this month when the Miami Marlins visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday in the opener of a three-game set. Miami won at San Diego on Thursday for its ninth victory in 10 games - including two against the Dodgers - before dropping the next three contests. Los Angeles managed only one triumph in four games against rival San Francisco over the weekend and has lost seven of its last 10 overall.
Tampa Bay at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
Felix Hernandez strives to end a five-start winless streak when the Seattle Mariners open a three-game series with the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Hernandez is just 0-1 during a stretch in which he has allowed 11 earned runs and last recorded a victory on April 11 against the Oakland Athletics. Tampa Bay is struggling after a 1-5 homestand and begins a seven-game road trip against the Mariners and Los Angeles Angels.
Atlanta at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
Two star players eager to put their slow starts behind them meet when the visiting Atlanta Braves begin a three-game series Monday against the San Francisco Giants. Both players have reason to be encouraged after Sunday, when Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval snapped a 6-for-38 slump with a season-high three hits against the Dodgers while Atlanta right fielder Jason Heyward belted a two-run shot against the Cubs for his first home run since April 9.
