Preview Roundups
April 30, 2016
Detroit at Minnesota 2:10 PM ET
Miguel Cabrera receives the bulk of the attention, but Victor Martinez's bat has been nearly as important for the Detroit Tigers over the past several years. Martinez looks to stay hot when the Tigers continue a three-game series at Minnesota on Saturday.
Washington at St. Louis 2:15 PM ET
A blister on his right middle finger temporarily halted Joe Ross' hot start, but the Washington right-hander hopes to pick up where he left off when the Nationals visit the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Ross allowed just one run and eight hits over 14 2/3 innings in his first two turns of the season before the blister knocked him out of his April 20 start against Miami.
Atlanta at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET

The opening month of the season has done nothing to quell the rampant optimism surrounding the Chicago Cubs, who aim for their fifth straight victory Saturday in the second of a three-game series against the visiting Atlanta Braves. The Cubs continued their best start since 1907 with a 6-1 victory in Friday’s series opener, improving to 17-5 – the best record in the majors.

Houston at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics attempt to extend their home winning streak to four games when they take on the Houston Astros in the middle contest of their three-game set Saturday afternoon. Oakland appeared on the verge of a third straight loss as it returned from a 5-5 road trip, but Yonder Alonso capped a late five-run rally with a walk-off, three-run homer to give the club a 7-4 triumph in the series opener.
San Francisco at NY Mets 4:05 PM ET
Yoenis Cespedes isn't letting a bruised right thigh slow him down. After Cespedes' grand slam highlighted a franchise-best 12-run third inning in the series opener, New York vies for its eighth straight victory and 11th in 12 outings on Saturday when it continues its three-game series versus the visiting San Francisco Giants.
Toronto at Tampa Bay 6:10 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays look to continue their power surge when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday for the second of a three-game series between American League East rivals. The Blue Jays, who led the majors in homers in 2015, belted four solo blasts in the 6-1 victory over Tampa Bay on Friday to snap a three-game losing streak.
Chi. White Sox at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The early leader in the clubhouse for the best bargain of the offseason is Chicago White Sox right-hander Mat Latos, who looks to continue his sensational start when he takes the mound for the third game of a four-game series versus the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. Latos has allowed a total of two runs in winning his first four starts.
Cleveland at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
After a slow start to the season, the surprising Philadelphia Phillies are surging up the standings. The Phillies aim for their eighth win in nine games Saturday when they square off with the visiting Cleveland Indians.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates are on a roll and hoping to get more consistent performances from their starting pitchers, especially with a three-game set looming against the National League Central Division-leading Chicago Cubs. Pittsburgh left-hander Francisco Liriano hopes to follow the lead of Juan Nicasio on Saturday when he makes his second home start of the season in the second of a three-game series versus the Cincinnati Reds.
NY Yankees at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees attempt to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat when they visit the Boston Red Sox on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series. New York has crossed the plate a total of five times during its three-game slide after suffering a 4-2 loss in Friday's opener, which marked the sixth straight game and 14th in the last 16 it scored three runs or fewer.
Miami at Milwaukee 7:10 PM ET
The streaking Miami Marlins have reached the .500 mark and search for their seventh consecutive victory when they visit the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. Adam Conley pitched 7 2/3 hitless innings Friday before being removed by manager Don Mattingly after 116 pitches and the Marlins held on for a 6-3 victory in the series opener.
LA Angels at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers are doing most of their damage with two outs during their three-game winning streak. The resilient Rangers vie for a series victory on Saturday when they continue their three-game set versus the visiting Los Angeles Angels.
Colorado at Arizona 8:10 PM ET
Zack Greinke has won his last two starts but still is trying to regain the consistent dominance that led to his career-best production last season. Greinke looks to rebound from allowing seven runs in his last start when the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.
San Diego at LA Dodgers 9:10 PM ET
Los Angeles first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is hitless in his last 13 at-bats with seven strikeouts, but there’s plenty of blame to go around for the Dodgers’ five-game losing streak. Gonzalez and the Dodgers will look to get untracked Saturday as they continue a three-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres, who snapped their own five-game skid with a 5-1 victory Friday.
Kansas City at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals’ offense has gone silent during their four-game losing streak, but at least they won’t have to face Felix Hernandez again this weekend. The Royals continue their three-game series against host Seattle on Saturday after Hernandez pitched into the eighth inning Friday to lead the Mariners to a 1-0 victory.
