Kansas City squandered a two-run lead before rallying for a 6-2 triumph in the opener as Alex Gordon delivered a tiebreaking RBI double in the sixth inning before capping a three-run seventh with a run-scoring single.

After an unexpected night off, the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles hope to begin their series Tuesday. The opener of the scheduled three-game set was postponed Monday after violent protests in Baltimore moved toward Camden Yards.

The New York Yankees are in sole possession of first place in the American League East and look to beat the visiting Tampa Bay Rays for the fifth consecutive time in Tuesday's middle game of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. Catcher Brian McCann belted a solo homer among his two hits as New York continued its early-season domination of the Rays, outscoring them 23-8 in the four meetings.

The Washington Nationals are falling into a deep hole as their bats struggle to keep up with their porous defense. The Nationals will try to avoid any more miscues and snap a six-game slide when they visit the Atlanta Braves in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jay Bruce still is not hitting his weight this season, but he is saving his most productive moments for when he faces the Milwaukee Brewers. Bruce ended an 0-for-12 slump with a two-run homer and drove in three runs in Monday's 9-6 victory over the Brewers, who have lost four of five to the Reds entering the second contest of their three-game series at Cincinnati on Tuesday.

A scoreless duel between Dillon Gee and Jarred Cosart on Monday ended in the bottom of the eighth inning as Martin Prado delivered Miami's third straight two-out single to plate the first run of the night.

The Detroit Tigers appear to be back on track offensively as they go for their fourth consecutive victory when they visit the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday in the second contest of their three-game set. The Tigers improved to 4-0 against Minnesota with a 5-4 victory in the series opener and have scored 17 runs in their last three games after managing a total of eight during a four-game skid.

The St. Louis Cardinals learned for sure on Monday that ace Adam Wainwright would miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury. The Cardinals will try to bounce back from that blow and even the series when they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks found a way to end their offensive woes in their last out, but continued their recent inability to win at home or defeat the Colorado Rockies. The Diamondbacks look to end a five-game skid to the Rockies on Tuesday when the National League West rivals square off in the second of three games in Arizona.

Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver is facing the prospect of a winless April as he steps on the mound against the host Oakland Athletics in Tuesday’s opener of a three-game series. Weaver is winless through four starts for the first time in his career and one of the outings was a no-decision in the Angels’ 9-2 loss to Oakland on Wednesday.

The streaking Houston Astros look to continue their torrid play when they visit the San Diego Padres in Tuesday’s middle contest of a three-game set. The Astros registered a 9-4 victory in the series opener for their fourth straight win and eighth in nine games.

Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw face off for the second time in less than a week on Tuesday as the San Francisco Giants continue a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are seeking their ninth straight home victory. The injury bug hit the Dodgers again on Monday with news that starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
