Preview Roundups
April 17, 2015
Chi. White Sox at Detroit 1:08 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers look to improve to 9-1 for the first time since 1984 when they host the Chicago White Sox in the opener of a three-game set on Friday afternoon. The Tigers boast the best record in the majors after blanking the Pittsburgh Pirates in their last two games and have recorded four shutouts in the first nine games.
San Diego at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
Amid speculation that prized prospect Kris Bryant will be promoted to make his much-anticipated major-league debut, the Chicago Cubs will host the San Diego Padres on Friday in the opener of a three-game set. The consensus top prospect in baseball, Bryant belted 43 homers in the minors last year and did nothing to dampen expectations with a spectacular performance in spring training, batting .425 and going deep nine times.
Milwaukee at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET

The Pittsburgh Pirates have struggled out of the gate, but the only team they've had success against thus far is coming to town for the weekend. The Pirates welcome the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-game series starting Friday after taking two of three from the Brewers last weekend.

Philadelphia at Washington 7:05 PM ET

Max Scherzer has posted 39 wins over the last two seasons but is still seeking his first victory of 2014. The former Cy Young Award winner has an excellent chance to break into the win column on Friday when the Washington Nationals continue their home series with the struggling Philadelphia Phillies.

Atlanta at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves embark on their first lengthy road trip of 2015 looking to snap a two-game losing streak and return to the solid offense that fueled their 6-1 start. The Braves open a nine-game road swing Friday at Toronto having scored only four runs in consecutive losses – all the scoring courtesy of solo home runs.
Baltimore at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox have managed to win their first three series but are having a little bit more trouble the second time through the starting rotation. Joe Kelly will attempt to stabilize things when the Red Sox host the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a four-game series on Friday.
NY Yankees at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees struggled to a 3-6 start and it doesn't get any easier as they continue their 10-game road trip by starting a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. New York lost 14 of its last 22 games and 21 of 33 against Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field and is 0-4-1 in the last five season series.
Miami at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
Lucas Duda is rolling at the plate and the New York Mets are along for the ride – all the way into sole possession of first place in the National League East for the first time in over three years. The red-hot first baseman looks to help the Mets match their longest winning streak since a six-game run from April 21-27, 2011, on Friday when they continue a four-game home series against the Miami Marlins.
Cleveland at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins attempt to extend their winning streak to three games when they host the American League Central-rival Cleveland Indians in the opener of their three-game series Friday. Minnesota began its six-game homestand by getting trounced 12-3 by Kansas City before bouncing back to hand the reigning AL champion its first two losses after a 7-0 start.
LA Angels at Houston 8:10 PM ET
Center fielder Mike Trout has hit safely in all nine games and looks to continue his hot start when the Los Angeles Angeles visit the Houston Astros on Friday in the opener of a three-game series. Trout collected three hits in Wednesday's 10-2 victory at Texas to give him the longest season-opening hitting streak by a reigning Most Valuable Player since 1961.
Oakland at Kansas City 8:10 PM ET
Billy Butler doesn't play for Kansas City anymore, but Oakland's designated hitter is sure to receive a thunderous ovation when the Athletics visit the Royals on Friday for the opener of a three-game series. “That’s home, you know?” said Butler, who played his first eight seasons with Kansas City. “I still view it as home, because I have so many friends there and lived there for so long. I have ties there that are going to connect me to the city the rest of my life. I’m part of the city.”
Cincinnati at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET

As heated as the rivalry between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds has been in recent years, it has been one-sided when the teams clash in St. Louis. The Cardinals look to win their ninth straight home series against the Reds when the rivals begin a three-game set Friday at Busch Stadium.

Texas at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
Nelson Cruz is swinging a powerful bat for Seattle and strives to homer in his sixth straight game when the Mariners open a three-game home series against the Texas Rangers on Friday. The Rangers are familiar with Cruz’s ability to smash homers as he hit 157 for them from 2006-13.
Colorado at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Clayton Kershaw looks to recapture his 2014 National League MVP and Cy Young form when his Los Angeles Dodgers host Colorado Rockies on Friday to start a three-game series. Kershaw, who went 21-3 last season and allowed one run in 22 innings against the Rockies, has been far from dominant in his first two appearances of 2015.
Arizona at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants won’t have anyone like Cubs phenom Kris Bryant joining them for Friday’s matchup against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, but third baseman Casey McGehee could return to the starting lineup after being held to one plate appearance in the last five games due to a bruised knee. The Giants dropped their seventh straight game Thursday as Arizona claimed the series opener 7-6 in 12 innings.
