Preview Roundups
April 15, 2015
Chi. White Sox at Cleveland 12:10 PM ET
Reigning American League Rookie of the Year Jose Abreu is beginning to warm up after a slow start as his Chicago White Sox go for a two-game sweep against the host Cleveland Indians on Wednesday afternoon. Abreu had two hits Sunday against Minnesota after going 3-of-17 to open the season and homered in the 4-1 victory over the Indians on Tuesday.
Miami at Atlanta 12:10 PM ET
The Miami Marlins spread their bats across the clubhouse floor Tuesday next to a sign reading, “Do Not Touch The Bats,” and the malaise hindering the Miami offense subsided a few hours later. The Marlins look for their first winning streak of the season in Wednesday’s series finale at Atlanta, after breaking out of their offensive funk in Tuesday’s 8-2 victory.
Washington at Boston 1:35 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox are attempting to go from worst to first again and already have clinched wins in each of their first three series. The Red Sox try for their first series sweep when they host the Washington Nationals in the finale of their three-game set on Wednesday.
LA Angels at Texas 2:05 PM ET
Anthony Ranaudo will make his debut with Texas when the Rangers host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the finale of a three-game series Wednesday afternoon. The former LSU star, who was traded by Boston to Texas in January, was scheduled to make his second start for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday but instead will be promoted to take the spot in the rotation of the injured Derek Holland.
NY Yankees at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
Adam Jones looks to continue to feast on home cooking as the Baltimore Orioles play the rubber match of their three-game series against the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Jones, who went deep in the first inning and drove in two runs in Tuesday's 4-3 triumph, is 11-for-17 with four homers and nine RBIs over the first five contests of the Orioles' six-game homestand.
Detroit at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers look to win their third straight series when they wrap up a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Shane Greene gave up just three hits and no walks over eight scoreless innings while Rajai Davis went 2-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run to help the Tigers post a 2-0 win on Tuesday and improve to 7-1 for the first time since 1981.
Tampa Bay at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays look to get their suddenly-dormant offense in back on track when they host the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday in the third of a four-game set. The Blue Jays, who posted double-digit runs twice in their previous three contests before the series, have managed only three combined to lose the last two days as Tampa Bay stretched its winning streak to four games.
Philadelphia at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
Jon Niese and Jerome Williams each enjoyed a strong season debut, but neither has a win to show for it. Both pitchers will try to notch their first victory of 2015 on Wednesday when the New York Mets wrap up their three-game home series with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Cincinnati at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds hope to have Brandon Phillips in the lineup when they visit the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday for the rubber match of their three-game series. Phillips went 1-for-2 and scored a run in Tuesday's 3-2 victory but was involved in a collision with Chicago shortstop Starlin Castro on the play prior to his crossing the plate during a three-run fourth inning and exited with light-headedness in the middle of the fifth.
Oakland at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics look to complete a sweep of the three-game series when they visit the Houston Astros for the finale on Wednesday. After matching its season total by belting three home runs en route to an 8-1 triumph in the opener, Oakland received a strong effort from its pitching staff on Tuesday to post a 4-0 victory.
Kansas City at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
Off to the second-best start in franchise history, the Kansas City Royals look to remain the only unbeaten team in the majors when they continue a three-game series at the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. The Royals spoiled the Twins' home opener with a 12-3 drubbing Monday to move to 7-0 - two wins shy of matching their club-record 9-0 start in 2003.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals hope to put a sloppy home-opening loss in the rear-view mirror when they host the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday in the second of a three-game series. The Cardinals tied for the best home record in the National League last year but a pair of errors and the inability to hit in the clutch were the key factors in Monday's 5-4 defeat.
Arizona at San Diego 9:10 PM ET
Improving the offense – particularly at the three outfield spots – was a key part of the facelift that new general manager A.J. Preller gave the San Diego Padres in the offseason. Former Arizona standout Justin Upton was part of that makeover and has made a smooth transition to his new home in San Diego, which will attempt to collect its fifth win in six tries on Wednesday when the Padres host the Diamondbacks in the rubber match of their three-game series.
Seattle at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers have recorded back-to-back walk-off victories and go for a three-game sweep of Seattle when they host the Mariners on Wednesday. Dodgers second baseman Howie Kendrick was the hero on Tuesday when his broken-bat single to right field off Fernando Rodney plated the tying and winning runs in a 6-5 victory.
Colorado at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
If the Colorado Rockies were looking to put last season’s road struggles behind them, they’re off to a good start. The Rockies are 5-0 on the road for the first time in franchise history heading into Wednesday’s series finale against the San Francisco Giants, who have lost five in a row.
