Preview Roundups
April 14, 2016
Detroit at Pittsburgh 12:35 PM ET
J.D. Martinez is no stranger to opening the season with a flourish. After beginning the 2012 campaign with a nine-game hitting streak, Martinez looks to extend his current run to eight straight contests on Thursday afternoon when the visiting Detroit Tigers attempt to take three of four in their home-and-home interleague series versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
San Diego at Philadelphia 1:05 PM ET
Vince Velasquez and Drew Pomeranz each impressed with their new teams as part of the season's opening week. On Thursday, the two hurlers will look to deliver a strong encore performance when they square off in the finale of a four-game series between the host Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres.
Chi. White Sox at Minnesota 1:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are mired in the franchise's worst start in 112 years (0-8) seek their first win of 2016 when they host the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a three-game series on Thursday afternoon. Minnesota has scored just 13 runs thus far this season after being blanked 3-0 by Chicago on Wednesday.
Cleveland at Tampa Bay 1:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians hope for a second straight dominant pitching performance when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday afternoon for the rubber match of their three-game series. Danny Salazar will try to match the performance of Carlos Carrasco, who limited the Rays to four hits and one run with eight strikeouts over eight innings in a 4-1 victory on Wednesday.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 1:45 PM ET
After having their explosive scoring streak snapped, the St. Louis Cardinals aim to get back to pushing across runs when they host the Milwaukee Brewers in the finale of a three-game series on Thursday afternoon. St. Louis scored 10 or more runs in three consecutive games for the first time since 1980 before falling 6-4 to the Brewers on Wednesday.
San Francisco at Colorado 3:10 PM ET
Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado began the season with a mini-slump while being overshadowed by a certain rookie teammate, but a visit from the San Francisco Giants has changed things in a hurry. The three-time Gold Glove winner looks to build on a monster performance and continue his dominance against the Giants on Thursday at Coors Field in the rubber match of a three-game series.
Atlanta at Washington 4:05 PM ET
The Braves take the field in Washington on Thursday having lost their first eight games of the season, but those on-the-field struggles were overshadowed by worse news off the field Wednesday. Outfielder Hector Olivera was arrested at the team hotel Wednesday morning on a misdemeanor assault and battery charge, leading Major League Baseball to immediately put him on administrative leave hours before Atlanta’s 3-0 loss to the streaking Nationals.
NY Yankees at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays look to win a series for the first time this season and pull even on their initial homestand of the year when they wrap up a three-game series with the New York Yankees on Thursday. The Blue Jays split their first four-game series before dropping two of three to Boston and then the opener against the Yankees, losing five of six overall before posting a 7-2 win on Wednesday.
Baltimore at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles became the last team in the majors to suffer a loss when they fell at Boston on Wednesday. The Orioles will attempt to start another winning streak on Thursday when they visit the Texas Rangers, who saw their chance at a series sweep come to an end on Wednesday as well.
Cincinnati at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET

The runs have come in bunches for Chicago in the first two contests of their three-game set with the visiting Cincinnati Reds, and it’s up to Cuban right-hander Raisel Iglesias to try and quiet the Cubs' potent lineup in Thursday’s series finale. Chicago has scored multiple runs in five innings while claiming the first two meetings, including a 9-2 victory Wednesday.

Kansas City at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals' offense may not be in championship form, but the team has gotten just enough to win five of its last six games. The Royals look to claim three of four contests against the Houston Astros when the clubs conclude their American League Division Series rematch at Minute Maid Park on Thursday.
Arizona at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Los Angeles rookie Ross Stripling looks to build on his remarkable debut Thursday as the Dodgers face the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks in the rubber match of a three-game series. Stripling tossed 7 1/3 hitless innings Friday at San Francisco but exited after 100 pitches and was forced to settle for a no-decision.
