Preview Roundups
April 13, 2017
Minnesota at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers are off to a 6-2 start as they try for a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Thursday and one of the best hitters in baseball history is barely contributing. Miguel Cabrera, who turns 34 on Tuesday, is the owner of 2,522 hits and a career .320 average - numbers that have him on the fast track to the Hall of Fame - but is 3-for-28 with nine strikeouts to start 2016 after going 0-for-4 and seeing only six pitches in Wednesday's 5-3 victory.
Pittsburgh at Boston 2:05 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox and the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates will both try to bounce back from lopsided losses when they meet Thursday afternoon at Fenway Park in the makeup game from a rainout last week. The Pirates, who managed three runs in 21 innings over two losses at Boston in the season-opening series earlier this month, were throttled by Cincinnati 9-2 on Wednesday and swept by the Reds in three games by a 22-5 margin.
LA Dodgers at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers played spoiler on the night the Chicago Cubs handed out their first World Series rings in 108 years, and now they’ll try to end the Cubs’ first home series during their title defense on a sour note. Los Angeles and Chicago meet in the rubber match of their three-game series Thursday at Wrigley Field.

Texas at LA Angels 3:37 PM ET
The Texas Rangers’ bullpen remains in a state of flux, but the team may have discovered an intriguing new option in right-hander Jose Leclerc. The 23-year-old flame-thrower drew raves after recording his first career save for the Rangers, who face the host Los Angeles Angels on Thursday afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game series.
Chi. White Sox at Cleveland 6:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians have struggled offensively since a productive opening series of the season and look to get the bats going when they host the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in the rubber match of a three-game set. The Indians posted 21 runs in three games to sweep Texas in the first series of the campaign and have managed 10 runs since after a 2-1 loss on Wednesday.
Tampa Bay at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees go for a three-game sweep in their opening series at home when they host the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. The Yankees rallied from a three-run deficit to post an 8-4 victory on Wednesday as slugging outfielder Aaron Judge belted a home run for the third consecutive game and third baseman Chase Headley continued his hot start.
Baltimore at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays are off to their worst start in franchise history and in desperate need of an offensive spark. Following another series sweep, the Blue Jays will try to end their troubling slide when they open a four-game series with the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.
Milwaukee at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds look to extend their winning streak to five on Thursday as they begin a 10-game homestand with the first of four contests against the Milwaukee Brewers. Cincinnati, which failed to homer for the first time this year Wednesday, went 5-1 on a road trip that ended with a three-game sweep at Pittsburgh in which it outscored the Pirates 22-5.
NY Mets at Miami 7:10 PM ET
One of the biggest questions surrounding the New York Mets this spring was how to fit Michael Conforto into a crowded outfield, but he is pushing for more playing time entering the start of a four-game series Thursday at the Miami Marlins. Conforto led the charge as the Mets capped a three-game sweep of Philadelphia on Wednesday, finishing 2-for-4 with three runs scored in just his second start of the season.
Oakland at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics attempt to complete a sweep when they visit the Kansas City Royals on Thursday for the finale of their three-game series. Oakland began its six-game road trip by losing two of three in Texas but has outscored Kansas City 10-3 in winning the first two contests of the set.
Colorado at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
After a shaky first week, the San Francisco Giants slowly are showing signs of rounding into form. San Francisco’s beleaguered bullpen looks to take another step forward Thursday as the Giants begin a four-game series against the visiting Colorado Rockies, who dropped two of three against San Diego and were shut out for the first time this season on Wednesday.
