Preview Roundups
April 12, 2015
Detroit at Cleveland 1:10 PM ET
Justin Verlander is on the disabled list, but the Detroit Tigers are off to a roaring start nonetheless. Kyle Lobstein takes Verlander’s spot in the rotation Sunday as the Tigers finish a three-game series at Cleveland, after rallying with four ninth-inning runs in Saturday’s 9-6 triumph to improve to 5-0 and remain the lone American League team without a loss.
Tampa Bay at Miami 1:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays look to follow up their second shutout of the young season with a series victory Sunday when they visit the Miami Marlins for the rubber match of a three-game interleague set. Starter Chris Archer gave the Rays seven strong innings after they used eight pitchers in the series opener and the offense did just enough to snap a five-game losing streak to the Marlins with a 2-0 win.
St. Louis at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
One day after suffering their first loss, the Cincinnati Reds turn to a pitcher who has never lost, or won, or started a major league game, for that matter. Raisel Iglesias gets the nod for the first time as a big leaguer Sunday when the Reds wrap up their three-game home series with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Toronto at Baltimore 1:35 PM ET
As if the Baltimore Orioles don’t have enough home run hitters in the lineup, second baseman Jonathan Schoop is starting to show he could be another power source. Schoop looks to homer for the third straight contest as the Orioles go after their second consecutive series victory when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game set.
NY Mets at Atlanta 1:35 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves opened their season Monday with an overhauled roster and, five games in, they still have not lost. The undefeated Braves aim for their second consecutive three-game sweep Sunday when they host the New York Mets after Julio Teheran and a lock-down bullpen held the Mets to three hits in Saturday’s 5-3 victory.
Washington at Philadelphia 1:35 PM ET
Since an ugly season opener, the Philadelphia Phillies have won three of their last four games. They look to continue that solid stretch and complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.
Minnesota at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET

The Chicago White Sox finally have their first win, and they have the right man on the mound to pick up their first series victory Sunday against visiting Minnesota. Ace left-hander Chris Sale will take the ball for the White Sox in the rubber match of the series, opposing Twins right-hander Phil Hughes.

Pittsburgh at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
Jimmy Nelson pitched a game befitting of the top prospect status he once carried to end a personal seven-game losing streak and give the Milwaukee Brewers their first victory of the season on Saturday. The Brewers hope to get a similar effort from ace Kyle Lohse on Sunday when the Brewers host the rubber match of a three-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Houston at Texas 3:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers have alternated strong performances and poor efforts through the first six games of their season. That doesn't bode particularly well for Sunday's finale of a three-game series against the visiting Houston Astros.
Kansas City at LA Angels 3:35 PM ET
The defending American League champion Kansas City Royals appear to have no weaknesses and go for a three-game sweep of Los Angeles at Angel Stadium on Sunday. Kansas City improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2003 with a 6-4 victory over Los Angeles on Saturday, and while it is no surprise its pitching staff — specially the bullpen — is performing well, a newfound power surge and a tight defense complete the Royals' all-around excellence.
Seattle at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
Seattle ace Felix Hernandez looks to build on his dominant opening day performance Sunday when the Mariners face the Oakland Athletics in the rubber match of a three-game series. The Mariners snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 5-4, 11-inning victory over the Athletics, who begin a 10-game road trip in Houston on Monday.
LA Dodgers at Arizona 4:10 PM ET
If rookie manager Chip Hale was looking for a clear indication that his Arizona Diamondbacks have improved over last season, he may be getting it with the early success they are enjoying against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After roughing up Clayton Kershaw on Saturday, the Diamondbacks attempt to do the same to another Cy Young Award winner in Zack Greinke on Sunday as they eye a three-game home sweep of the Dodgers.
Chi. Cubs at Colorado 4:10 PM ET

Coors Field has proven a great place for offense, and the Chicago Cubs became the latest team to find theirs in Denver's thin air. The Cubs look to build off their offensive breakout and win consecutive games for the first time this season when they wrap up a three-game road series with the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

San Francisco at San Diego 4:10 PM ET
At this point, even the San Francisco Giants’ mascot should be considered an injury risk. Already down several key starters, the Giants will likely head into Sunday’s series finale against the host San Diego Padres without third baseman Casey McGehee, who suffered a strained left knee in Saturday’s 10-2 loss.
Boston at NY Yankees 8:05 PM ET
After playing more than 10 hours of baseball in a span of just over 21 hours, the Boston Red Sox and the host New York Yankees will finally have some down time before a Sunday night matchup to close out a three-game series. The Red Sox claimed the 19-inning marathon in the series opener that ended Saturday morning and then rode a monster performance from Brock Holt - who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs in his first start of the season - to an 8-4 win Saturday afternoon.
