Preview Roundups
April 11, 2016
Pittsburgh at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers hope for better weather conditions when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday in the opener of a four-game, home-and-home series that shifts to the Keystone State for the final two contests. Detroit suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 8-4 to the New York Yankees in the coldest game in the history of Comerica Park, before having the series finale Sunday postponed because of snow and rain.
Baltimore at Boston 2:05 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox used a pair of rainouts in the season-opening series at Cleveland to shuffle the rotation, allowing ace David Price the opportunity to start the home opener on Monday when they host the Baltimore Orioles. Price is the most expensive free agent ever signed by Boston and is eager to make a good first impression on the home fans.
San Diego at Philadelphia 3:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres recovered nicely in their second series of the season, although in fairness, neither squad set the bar too high in their opening set. Both teams look to win for the third time in their last four games when Philadelphia plays host to San Diego in a Monday matinee.
Chi. White Sox at Minnesota 4:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox haven't missed a beat despite dealing with Mother Nature lately, while the Minnesota Twins couldn't catch a break against the two hottest teams in the American League during the first week of the season. The Twins hope to end the franchise's worst start in over 100 years on Monday when they welcome the White Sox to Target Field in their home opener.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 4:15 PM ET
After a lackluster showing en route to getting swept to begin the season, the St. Louis Cardinals' offense had no problem scoring runs at a dizzying rate over the weekend. The Cardinals figure to receive another jolt of energy when Hall-of-Famer Lou Brock, who had his left leg amputated in the offseason, throws out the ceremonial first pitch Monday prior to the club's home opener versus the Milwaukee Brewers.
Atlanta at Washington 7:05 PM ET
It has been a difficult start to the season for the Atlanta Braves, the National League’s lone winless team which opens a seven-game road trip Monday at the Washington Nationals at 0-5 – their worst start since beginning 1988 with 10 consecutive defeats. The Braves issued nine walks and hit three batters in Sunday’s 12-7 loss to St. Louis, and face a Washington team that has dominated Atlanta since the start of 2015.
Miami at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets will try to awake from an offensive slumber when they open up a three-game series with the visiting Miami Marlins on Monday. The defending National League champs, who opened 13-3 last year, are 2-3 after a 5-2 home loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
Cincinnati at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET

Optimism always seems to reign on opening day at Wrigley Field, but perhaps never more than it will for the Chicago Cubs’ home opener Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs are coming off a trip to the National League Championship Series and have opened a promising campaign with a 5-1 road trip, but will face a tough test against the Reds team that is off to a 5-1 start of its own.

Kansas City at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The reigning world champion Kansas City Royals take to the road for the first time this season when they begin a four-game set against the Houston Astros on Monday in a rematch of the 2015 American League Division Series. Kansas City began the defense of its championship with a successful five-game homestand that concluded with a three-game sweep against Minnesota — including a 10-inning victory on Sunday in which it rallied for two runs in the ninth before pinch-runner Terrance Gore scored on a
LA Angels at Oakland 10:05 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics (4-3) are above .500 for the first time since April 14, 2015 as they host the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game series beginning Monday, and are starting to win the close ones. Oakland completed a three-game sweep in Seattle with a 2-1 victory in 10 innings Sunday, improving to 3-2 in one-run games this season after finishing a franchise-worst 19-35 in such contests in 2015.
Texas at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
Nomar Mazara made a great first impression with Texas and hopes for another strong effort when the Rangers open a three-game series against the host Seattle Mariners on Monday. The 20-year-old Mazara was recalled Sunday to replace the injured Shin-Soo Choo and went 3-for-4 with a home run in his major-league debut.
