Oakland at Minnesota 1:10 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics attempt to continue their mastery of Minnesota when they look to finish off a three-game sweep of the host Twins on Thursday. Oakland posted its eighth straight win over Minnesota on Wednesday, blowing a four-run lead and later receiving a three-run homer in the 11th inning from Derek Norris for a 7-4 victory. The Twins have allowed 15 runs in the series and have lost 13 of the last 15 meetings with the Athletics.
Pittsburgh at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs are undefeated in the final game of a series this season, but this time they're trying to do more than salvage the finale. The Cubs will go for their first series win of the year when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Chicago held on for a 7-5 victory Wednesday night despite surrendering five solo home runs to the Pirates, and the Cubs hope to notch their first back-to-back wins of the season.
Miami at Washington 4:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals will try for a three-game sweep over visiting Miami on Thursday and it doesn't seem anything can deny them when they play the Marlins these days. Washington won for the 16th time in 21 meetings - 11 of 12 at home - when it rallied twice to defeat Miami 10-7 on Wednesday behind Jayson Werth's grand slam in the eighth inning. Bryce Harper broke out of a 4-for-25 slump with two hits, including a three-run homer which began the Nationals' climb out of a 5-0 hole.
Boston at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
Jacoby Ellsbury deserves a lot of credit for two World Series championships he earned while playing center field for the Boston Red Sox. But when Ellsbury takes the field against his former team for the start of a four-game series Thursday, it will be as a member of the rival New York Yankees. The star center fielder left the Red Sox as a free agent over the winter and signed a seven-year, $153 million contract with the Yankees while Boston patched the position.
Milwaukee at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers hope to complete a perfect road trip when they play the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday in the finale of a three-game series. Milwaukee swept a three-game set at Boston before capturing the first two games in Philadelphia by a combined 19-8. The Phillies have lost three straight games while allowing a total of 27 runs in the process.
Houston at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
With a nine-game road trip in their near future, the Toronto Blue Jays appear poised to leave home with a full head of steam. The Blue Jays eye their fourth win in the last five contests and look to complete a three-game sweep Thursday when they host the Houston Astros. Toronto dropped two of three to the New York Yankees to start its six-game homestand, but rebounded with a pair of multiple-run victories against the light-hitting Astros.
NY Mets at Atlanta 7:10 PM ET
There has been plenty of talk about whether the Atlanta Braves can recover from several key pitching injuries, but the defending National League East champions have to produce more on offense if they hope to repeat. The Braves host the New York Mets in the finale of a three-game series Thursday after showing signs of shaking out of their offensive slumber in Wednesday’s 4-3 victory. The Mets have split the first two games of a nine-game road trip.
Cleveland at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians took advantage of the struggling Chicago White Sox last season by winning 17 of their 19 meetings, including the final 14. The Indians look to find the same formula to jump-start their season when they visit the White Sox on Thursday to begin a four-game series with their long-time rivals. Cleveland has been up and down while winning five of nine games and Chicago is off to a strong start with the bats, but has lost five of its last seven contests.
Arizona at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
Although Paul Goldschmidt owes much of his success against the San Francisco Giants to Tim Lincecum, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ slugger has been a thorn in their division rival’s side for some time. Goldschmidt, whose Diamondbacks look to take the rubber match of a three-game set on the road, has tallied 10 homers and 39 RBIs in 52 career games versus the Giants. The slugger hit a three-run shot and drove in four on Wednesday to increase his totals against Lincecum to seven home runs and 17 RBIs.
