Preview Roundups
April 08, 2014
Baltimore at NY Yankees 1:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees brought in several high-priced free agents in the offseason, but the newcomer making the biggest splash so far is making the minimum. Yangervis Solarte will try to continue his hot start when the Yankees host the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday afternoon. Solarte was signed as a minor-league free agent before making the team in spring training and is the everyday third baseman now with Mark Teixeira on the disabled list.
Milwaukee at Philadelphia 4:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies had to wait an extra day for their home opener because of rain, and now they have to hope the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers don't dampen the second try. The Phillies open a 10-game homestand Tuesday against a Brewers team that is riding high after a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park over the weekend. Philadelphia needs to get its offense back on track after going 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position in an 8-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
Arizona at San Francisco 4:35 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants’ recent system of winning the World Series one season and missing the playoffs the next is due for another championship in 2014, and so far things are looking good. The Giants will try to take control of another National League West opponent when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the home opener Tuesday. The Diamondbacks are off to a slow start but snapped a four-game slide with a win Sunday.
Texas at Boston 6:10 PM ET
The Texas Rangers find themselves dealing with another pitching injury as they play the middle contest of a three-game series against the host Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. Starter Joe Saunders was placed on the disabled list Monday with a bruised foot, joining Matt Harrison, Derek Holland and minor-league signee Colby Lewis on the sidelines. Boston calmed the nerves of its fan base in Monday’s series opener, beating the Rangers 5-1 after being swept of a three-game home series by Milwaukee over th
San Diego at Cleveland 7:05 PM ET
The San Diego Padres’ streak of 474 games without a rainout came to an end on Monday, but they should be able to start a new one on Tuesday against the host Cleveland Indians. The weather forecast is promising for Tuesday evening, when the teams are scheduled to play one game before closing the series Wednesday with a traditional doubleheader. The Padres are hoping Monday's rainout recharges their lineup, which is batting a collective .189 through the first six games.
Miami at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Miami Marlins are off to a 5-2 start and will try to keep their newfound offense rolling when they begin a three-game series in Washington against the Nationals on Tuesday. These are not your older brother's Marlins as they led the major leagues in runs scored through Sunday with 42 after recording the fewest in 2013 - 85 less than the second-worst Chicago White Sox. One of the big reasons - literally and figuratively - is 6-6, 240-pound Giancarlo Stanton (.345, two homers, 12 RBIs, seven ru
Houston at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays look to rebound from a loss in their first home series of the season when they continue their homestand against Houston on Tuesday in the first of three games. Toronto dropped the rubber game against the New York Yankees on Sunday 6-4 as Drew Hutchinson was hit hard early and the Blue Jays were unable to come back. It marked the seventh straight game to begin the year that Toronto has been held to four runs or fewer.
NY Mets at Atlanta 7:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves open their home schedule Tuesday when they welcome in the rival New York Mets for the first of three straight. Atlanta had the best home mark in baseball in 2013 with a franchise record-tying 56 wins at Turner Field. The Braves, who are coming off a 2-1 loss in the finale of a series in Washington, will be marking the 40th anniversary of Hank Aaron's 715th home run at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, which broke Babe Ruth's longtime record.
Pittsburgh at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET
After playing three one-run games - including two that went to extra innings - to open the season, the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates will square off again beginning Tuesday at Wrigley Field. The Pirates won two of three last week at PNC Park, limiting the Cubs to six runs but scoring only seven. Chicago's bats came to life in Sunday's 8-3 victory over Philadelphia as the Cubs matched their run output from their first five games combined.
Tampa Bay at Kansas City 8:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals look to follow their first winning season since 2003 with a playoff appearance and will need to take care of business at home to do it. The Royals attempt to improve to 4-1 in their own park this season when they host the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in the second contest of a three-game series. Eight American League teams had better records than Kansas City’s 44-37 mark at home in 2013 and the Royals expect better, especially if Yordano Ventura can be a factor.
Cincinnati at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The road to the National League Central title usually goes through St. Louis, and that hasn't been a friendly route for the Cincinnati Reds thus far in 2014. The Cardinals have won three of four meetings in the early going and look to clinch their second series victory over the visiting Reds on Tuesday. St. Louis won the series opener 5-3 on Monday, the first of the four meetings to be decided by more than one run.
Chi. White Sox at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies have struggled in interleague play over the past few seasons, but they’re eager to change things starting this week. They’ll look to improve to 2-0 against the American League on Tuesday as they host the Chicago White Sox, who have lost four of their last five. Colorado went 7-28 against AL opponents over the last two seasons before cruising to an 8-1 win over the White Sox in Monday’s series opener.
Detroit at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Two teams that haven’t been tight about spending money in recent years square off when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Detroit Tigers in Tuesday's opener of the two-game series. Both teams got off to good starts, the Dodgers winning four of their first five and the Tigers their first four before losing 3-1 to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
LA Angels at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
Robinson Cano makes his home debut with the Seattle Mariners as they open a two-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Cano inked a 10-year, $240 million contract with the Mariners this offseason and has provided an instant boost to a franchise that needed one, hitting safely in all six games and batting .391 to help Seattle take four of six to open the season. Three of those wins came in a season-opening sweep of the Angels, who were outscored 26-8 in the set.
