Josh Rojas hit a two-run homer and Mike Ford and Teoscar Hernandez each had two hits to help the Seattle Mariners defeat the host Chicago White Sox 6-3 on Tuesday to extend their winning streak to eight games.

Seattle, which won for the 16th time in 19 games, remained one game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays for the third and final American League wild-card spot.

Andrew Vaughn's first-inning RBI single gave Chicago a 1-0 lead, but the Mariners responded with two runs in the second via run-scoring singles from Ford and J.P. Crawford. Rojas' fourth-inning blast against White Sox starter Mike Clevinger added to the advantage.

Chicago appeared to trim its deficit to one run when Luis Robert Jr. blasted a pitch down the left field line with two outs and a runner aboard in the bottom of the fifth.

After the ball was initially ruled fair, replay review determined it was slightly foul. Robert eventually walked, but the White Sox didn't score and remained down 4-1.

Seattle added a pair of runs in the sixth, capitalizing on a hit batter and two walks. Ty France hit an RBI single, and Cal Raleigh drove in his seventh run of the series with a sacrifice fly.

Andrew Benintendi smacked a solo home run with Chicago down to its last strike to account for the final margin.

Mariners starter Bryan Woo allowed one run and three hits in four innings with one walk and three strikeouts.

Justin Topa (3-3) earned the victory with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, and Andres Munoz recorded the final out for his eighth save.

The White Sox lost for the eighth time in 10 games. Yoan Moncada and Vaughn each had two hits.

Clevinger fell to 5-6 after allowing four runs and six hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out four.

White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson served the final game of a five-game suspension for his role in an Aug. 5 fight with Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians.
