MIAMI -- Daniel Murphy hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning, and the red-hot New York Mets rallied to a 3-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday night at Marlins Park.
New York got all of their runs off Marlins closer Steve Cishek (0-1). Center fielder Juan Lagares led off the ninth with a double over the head of Marlins center fielder Marcell Ozuna, who did not judge the ball properly.
After first baseman Lucas Duda walked and left fielder Michael Cuddyer popped out, Murphy, the second baseman, pulled a 1-1 pitch over the fence in right-center, putting the Mets up 3-1.
Jeurys Familia got the save and leads the majors with nine. He has yet to blow a save this season and set the Mets record for most saves in April, previously shared by John Franco and Armando Benitez.
The Mets (15-5) won for the 13th time in their past 15 games. The Marlins (8-12) had their five-game winning streak snapped by their National League East rivals.
Miami right-hander Jarred Cosart got a no-decision despite pitching eight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits (both singles) and three walks.
New York starter Dillon Gee also got a no-decision, allowing one run on six hits in 7 2/3 innings.
He had pitched seven scoreless innings, needing just 59 pitches and allowing three singles and no walks. But he ran into trouble with two outs and nobody on in the eighth.
Pinch hitter Justin Bour hit a bloop single to center field -- Lagares was playing deep -- to start the rally. That hit broke up a string of 14 batters retired by Gee.
The next batter, second baseman Dee Gordon, singled. And third baseman Martin Prado singled over the glove of Murphy, scoring pinch runner Reid Brignac.
NOTES: Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who signed a three-year, $21 million contract before the 2014 season, was designated for assignment after producing just a .681 OPS last season and a .389 OPS this month. It’s highly unlikely any team will pick up the $15 million left on the contract, meaning “Salty” will get all the money left on the deal and become a free agent once he clears waivers. ... Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria was named NL Player of the Week for the first time in his career, earning the honor after hitting .500 with 10 RBIs. ... Mets 3B David Wright (hamstring) resumed baseball activities on Monday and could return to the lineup as soon as Saturday. He has been on the disabled list since April 15. ... Mets RHP Rafael Montero will make his first start of the season Tuesday, pitching against Miami RHP David Phelps. Montero started the year in the bullpen and was sent to Triple-A to prepare to return to the rotation. ... The Mets signed INF Brooks Conrad, 35, and assigned him to Triple-A for depth purposes.
