OAKLAND, Calif. -- Right-hander Aaron Brooks allowed one run in 7 1/3 innings in his Oakland debut and shortstop Marcus Semien hit a solo home run, lifting the A's to a 5-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night at O.co Coliseum.

Brooks (1-0) came to the A's on Tuesday from Kansas City along with minor-league right-hander Sean Manaea in a trade for utility man Ben Zobrist. Brooks was pitching for Triple-A Omaha at the time, but the A's promoted the southern California native to the big leagues.

With a large contingent of family and friends on hand, Brooks put on an impressive show in his second career start, posting his first major-league victory and helping the A's snap their three-game losing streak. He gave up five hits, struck out five and walked none.

Brooks kept Indians hitters off balance with a mix of low 90s fastballs, change-ups, sliders and curves. He walked off the mound to a standing ovation with one out and a runner on first in the eighth inning when left-hander Drew Pomeranz took over.

Pomeranz got the final two outs in the eighth and Edward Mujica pitched a perfect ninth as the A's ended the Indians' three-game winning streak.

Indians right-hander Cody Anderson (2-3), making his seventh career major league start, gave up four runs (three earned) and six hits in 6 2/3 innings, dropping his second straight decision. He struck out four and walked one.

Anderson, who grew up in the small northern California city of Quincy, had a loud rooting section of more than 50 family members and friends sitting behind the Indians' dugout, many of them wearing his No. 56 Cleveland jersey.

Semien ended Anderson's night with two outs in the seventh when he lined a solo shot into the left-field seats, his ninth home run of the season, extending Oakland's lead to 4-1.

Cleveland right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall, who had three hits Friday night in a 2-1 Indians victory, hit a solo home run in the fifth off Brooks, his fifth homer of the season.

Center fielder Sam Fuld had two hits, stole a base, scored a run and drove in a run for the A's. Designated hitter Billy Butler went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run.

The A's had one hit and one unearned run in their previous 17 innings against Cleveland entering Saturday's game. After a 1-2-3 first inning, the A's broke through for a run in the second.

Butler grounded a leadoff single to center field and moved to third on first baseman Ike Davis' double to right center. Butler scored on left fielder Mark Canha's groundout to second base.

The Indians pulled even in the top of the fifth when Chisenhall launched his fifth home run of the season. Facing a 3-2 count with one out, Chisenhall saw his fourth straight fastball from Brooks and crushed the 91 mph pitch.

Oakland answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

Third baseman Max Muncy started the inning with a one-out double to right field. After Semien walked, second baseman Eric Sogard lined a single to right, but Chisenhall fired a one-hop strike to catcher Yan Gomes, who tagged Muncy for the second out.

Anderson nearly escaped unscathed, but Fuld lined an RBI single to right, driving in Semien. And when first baseman Carlos Santana cut off Chisenhall's throw and overthrew third base, Sogard raced home.

NOTES: The A's recalled RHP Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Nashville and designated LHP Eric O'Flaherty for assignment. Brooks started against Cleveland in his A's debut. O'Flaherty was 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA in 25 relief appearances this season, his second with the A's. ... Indians 2B Jason Kipnis, who has a sore right shoulder that bothers him when he throws, served as Cleveland's designated hitter for the second straight game. "I don't think it's anything we need to worry about but would just rather stay out ahead of it," manager Terry Francona said. "It doesn't hurt him one lick hitting. Hopefully he'll bounce back tomorrow and be OK." ... Francona said he was going to start OF Jerry Sands, who was called up Friday from Triple-A Columbus, but changed that plan when he determined Kipnis needed another game at DH. ... Oakland LHP Sean Doolittle (strained left shoulder) threw his second bullpen session Saturday since returning to the disabled list on May 28, one day after suffering a setback in his season debut. "It went really well," Doolittle said. "I think I'll be ready to face hitters sooner than later."
