BOSTON -- Interim manager Torey Lovullo likes the impression the Boston Red Sox made on new boss Dave Dombrowski on Wednesday night.

"I think it would be very positive," Lovullo said after the Red Sox twice hit back-to-back homers in a 6-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians -- just hours after the club formally introduced Dombrowski as its new president of baseball operations.

"I think our pitching (Joe Kelly) came out and set a very aggressive tone ... I think we did a good job," Lovullo said. "We a couple of little hiccups in there but by in large we played with energy, we drove the baseball offensively, we played really, really good defense on the infield -- and we played fast, that was impressive."

The big hiccup was right fielder Rusney Castillo catching a fly ball for the second out of the seventh inning and, thinking the inning was over, tossing the ball into the stands for a two-base error. Then there was reliever Jean Machi giving up a three-run homer to catcher Yan Gomes in the eighth inning, making a laugher much closer.

Designated hitter David Ortiz (26th of the season, 492nd career) and rookie first baseman Travis Shaw hit back-to-back homers in the second inning, and center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and catcher Ryan Hanigan repeated the feat in a four-run fourth as the Red Sox took the rubber game of a series between two last-place teams.

Bradley, who just missed a homer his first time up, hit a three-run shot, the career-worst fourth homer of the game allowed by Indians starter Corey Kluber (8-13).

"Castillo hit a groundball that found a hole. And Bradley hit a popup that in the nature of this park, it turns into a home run," said Kluber. "I mean they hit two popups that accounted for four runs. Other than that was pretty good.

Kelly (6-6) worked six innings and allowed just an unearned run for his fourth straight win. The Red Sox scored 38 runs in those four games, but Kelly allowed only three earned runs over the past three.

He threw 100 pitches and wanted to stay in. Lovullo, 4-2 since John Farrell stepped back for the rest of the season for treatment for lymphoma, had a chat with the pitcher and all ended well.

Dombrowski, hired by Boston just two weeks after being fired by the Detroit Tigers, was introduced at an afternoon press conference.

"When you start looking at opportunities that come around, there aren't many opportunities like this that exist," Dombrowski said, adding it was an "extreme honor" to get this job.

Junichi Tazawa worked a perfect ninth for his first save of the season, only the second of his career.

Boston scored 62 runs on 89 hits, going 4-2 in the first six games of a 10-game homestand.

Shaw's homer was his sixth consecutive hit.

Kluber, who pitched three complete games in his previous four outings, lasted six innings Wednesday, and he matched his season high by allowing six runs. He struck out nine, walked one and yielded six hits.

"Kind of a peculiar line," said Indians manager Terry Francona. "He was missing a bunch of bats to get the strikeouts but he made some mistakes with his fastball and paid the price. In this ballpark, what might be a double to left field can be a home run."

Michael Brantley, the Cleveland left fielder serving as the DH for the third straight game because of a shoulder injury, had three hits. He went 7-for-13 in the series.

Ortiz, batting .500 during an 11-game hitting streak, led off the second inning with his 20th home run since June 11 -- a towering fly ball into the visitors' bullpen. Four pitches later, Shaw homered to left field.

Bradley, back in center field with Mookie Betts (and shortstop Xander Bogaerts) resting, made a spectacular over-the-head, twisting catch on a drive by shortstop Francisco Lindor for the second out of the first inning.

"One of the best catches I've ever seen," Kelly said.

NOTES: Dave Dombrowski, introduced Wednesday as the new Red Sox's new president, said he would hire a general manager to replace Ben Cherington, but added, "I think it's important to know -- and I'm going to talk to a couple of people in the front office very quickly on the baseball end of it -- is that I'm not here to blow up the operation." Dombrowski also said he thought Cherington would stay but understood why he didn't. ... Dombrowski's first act in his new job was releasing RHP Justin Masterson, who had been designated for assignment 10 days earlier. ... RHP Josh Tomlin makes his second start since returning from shoulder surgery when the Indians open a four-game series against the Yankees on Thursday night in New York. ... LHP Wade Miley opens a four-game home series for the Red Sox against the Kansas City Royals.
