Marlins 6, Cubs 5: Garrett Jones hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning to help host Miami even the three-game series at one win apiece.

Adeiny Hechavarria went 4-for-5 and Rafael Furcal recorded two hits, two RBIs and a run scored for the Marlins, who won for only the second time in six games. Jones' homer off the top of the wall in right field gave Sam Dyson (1-0) his first major-league victory after 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Junior Lake blasted a two-run homer and Luis Valbuena registered a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Cubs, who got the tying run to the plate in the ninth before Steve Cishek struck out Anthony Rizzo to nail down his 16th save. Chicago ace Jeff Samardzija labored through six innings, allowing three runs — two earned — and striking out eight, but was in line for the win before Jones' blast off Brian Schlitter (2-2).

The Marlins opened the scoring in the first, when Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro made an errant throw on the back end of a potential double play, allowing Furcal to scamper home. Chicago answered in the second, as Lake drove a first-pitch fastball from Anthony DeSclafani out to left for a two-run shot and Samardzija added a sacrifice fly for a 3-1 lead.

Furcal hit a two-out, two-run single up the middle in the fourth to tie it, but Valbuena put the Cubs back on top in the seventh as he ripped Dyson's first pitch of the night into the right-field corner to score Chris Coghlan. Hechavarria led off the seventh with a bunt single and Schlitter walked Casey McGehee before serving up Jones' ninth homer of the season on a 1-0 fastball.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McGehee drew two walks and scored a run but went 0-for-2, ending his career high-tying 11-game hitting streak. … Before Jones' go-ahead blast, left-handed batters were hitting .132 against Schlitter. … Marlins CF Jake Marisnick went 2-for-4 with a run scored and has recorded multiple hits in his first two games since being recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.
