Tigers 6, Blue Jays 2: Max Scherzer became baseball's first 13-0 starter in 27 years and Alex Avila sparked Detroit's four-run second inning with a three-run homer as the Tigers beat host Toronto for the second straight night.

Scherzer scattered two runs and seven hits over 6 1/3 innings, fanning eight to become the first starter since Boston's Roger Clemens in 1986 to win his first 13 decisions of the season. Victor Martinez had two hits, including a homer, while Jhonny Peralta added an RBI and scored a run.

Blue Jays right-hander Josh Johnson (1-3) surrendered six runs on seven hits over five innings. Only one of the Detroit runs was earned as the Tigers capitalized on three Toronto errors.

After Prince Fielder reached on an infield single and advanced to third on a Martinez grounder that second baseman Emilio Bonifacio misplayed, Peralta opened the scoring with a single up the middle. Two outs later, Avila blasted a Johnson offering over the wall in left-center for his sixth homer of the year.

Martinez tacked on a run in the third on a single to center, then made it 6-0 in the fifth with a solo blast into the right-field seats. Colby Rasmus and Maicer Izturis put Toronto on the board in the sixth with a pair of RBI singles to right.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Clemens' streak came to an end on July 2, 1986 at the hands of the Blue Jays. ... Tigers CF Austin Jackson made an acrobatic catch to rob Toronto C J.P. Arencibia of a home run in the second. Scherzer reacted to the grab by slapping his glove and pumping his fist. ... Toronto INF Mark DeRosa tripled to right field in the second, his first three-base hit since Sept. 18, 2009.
