Braves 3, Nationals 2 (10): Justin Upton connected for a home run in the bottom of the 10th to lift host Atlanta to its 19th win in its final at-bat.

Upton cranked a 2-2 curveball from Ian Krol (1-1) into the left-field seats to give the Braves their third straight win and push their lead in the National League East to 15 1/2 games over Washington. Scott Downs (4-3) pitched a scoreless 10th to earn the win for Atlanta, which has won 11 of 14 meetings with Washington this season.

Nationals star Bryce Harper, who angered the Braves with a slow home run trot when the teams met earlier this month, was booed each time he came to bat and was hit by a pitch twice - by Alex Wood in the fourth and by Luis Avilan in the eighth. Both benches were warned after the second time.

The second plunking moved the tying run into scoring position and set up Jayson Werth's RBI single through the right side to tie it at 2.

Both teams' young starters turned in strong outings, as Atlanta left-hander Alex Wood struck out nine and allowed one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings and Washington right-hander Taylor Jordan allowed just two unearned runs on seven hits over six frames. The Nationals have made 12 errors behind Jordan in his nine major-league starts.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Washington's run in the eighth was the first earned run charged to Avilan since May 21, snapping a streak of 35 consecutive scoreless appearances. … Werth went 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to eight games. … Atlanta INF Tyler Pastornicky will undergo season-ending knee surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament on Monday. The Braves called up utility man Phil Gosselin to take his place.
