Jed Lowrie continued his rampage against the Tigers, Chris Bassitt collected his first win of the season, and the Oakland A's nailed down a 3-0 victory in Detroit on Wednesday night.

Lowrie had a pair of doubles and drove in the first run of the game. He had the go-ahead hit in each of the previous two games of the four-game series and has seven hits, including two homers, over the past three games.

Bassitt (1-3) was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to make the start. He gave up just two hits while overcoming five walks and striking out five. He had lost his previous three major league starts this season and is now 3-14 in his career.

Yusmeiro Petit pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the A's. Lou Trivino notched his second save by recording the last three outs for Oakland, which has won nine of its past 11.

Oakland scored insurance runs in the ninth on RBI doubles from Josh Phegley and Dustin Fowler.

The Tigers have lost eight in a row. Mike Fiers (5-5) was the hard-luck loser, giving up one run on five hits in seven innings.

Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire was ejected for arguing balls and strikes after the third inning.

Tigers left fielder JaCoby Jones made a leaping grab to rob Matt Olson of a homer in the second.

Detroit came close to breaking the deadlock in the third, but Bassitt struck out Niko Goodrum with the bases loaded.

Oakland took the lead in the fourth on Matt Joyce's leadoff single and Lowrie's double to right.

Tigers center fielder Leonys Martin made a difficult catch near the wall against Stephen Piscotty to prevent the A's from extending their lead in the sixth. Martin's sparkling play followed Olson's two-out single.

Martin's glove work was on display again in the seventh. He crashed into the wall to rob Chad Pinder of an extra-base hit leading off the inning.

The A's had a threat going in the eighth when Lowrie smacked a one-out double and Olson, after a lengthy at-bat, reached first on a Goodrum error. However, Joe Jimenez retired Piscotty on a groundout to keep the score 1-0.
