Second baseman Daniel Descalso hit the first of Arizona's franchise-record-tying six homers and Clay Buchholz won his first game since 2016 as the Diamondbacks beat the visiting Miami Marlins 9-1 in the opener of a three-game series at Chase Field on Friday.

Descalso walked and scored in the first inning, and his two-run homer in the second inning triggered a long-ball barrage that included two homers by Ketel Marte and one apiece by Jake Lamb, David Peralta and John Ryan Murphy. Marte, a switch-hitter, is the sixth player in franchise history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game.

Buchholz (1-1) gave up six hits and one run in a season-high seven innings in his third start as the Diamondbacks won for the third time in four games following a stretch in which they lost 15 of 17. He struck out nine and walked one in his first victory since Sept. 21, 2016, with Boston.

Derek Dietrich had three hits and Lewis Brinson had a run-scoring single in the seventh inning for Miami, which has lost seven of eight to fall a season-worst 17 games under .500.

Buchholz made two starts for Philadelphia last April before undergoing surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon that sidelined him for the rest of the year. He is the first pitcher in team history to give up one or fewer runs and pitch at least five innings in each of his first three starts.

Miami right-hander Elieser Hernandez (0-3) gave up five hits and five runs in three innings, with two walks and one strikeout, in his fourth start. He had not given up more than two runs in his previous three.

Marte, Murphy, Lamb and Peralta had two hits apiece for Arizona, which had six homers for the sixth time in team history, the last when J.D. Martinez had a four-homer game at the Dodgers on Sept. 4, 2017. The catcher Murphy has five homers in his last six starts.

Peralta singled in Descalso with two outs in the first inning before Descalso hit his seventh homer of the season for a 3-0 lead. He had a career-high 10 homers last year.

Lamb opened the third inning with his second homer and Peralta hit his eighth with one out in the third. Lamb singled before Murphy hit his eighth homer in the fifth. Marte hit his second to cap the three-run fifth and homered again in the eighth.
