CHICAGO -- Brett Wallace clubbed a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning as the San Diego Padres claimed a 7-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs in the opener of a split doubleheader on Wednesday.

San Diego's victory halted a three-game skid for the Padres (14-20) and an eight-game winning streak for the Cubs (25-7).

San Diego reliever Carlos Villanueva (1-0) worked one inning -- the sixth -- for the win and Fernando Rodney pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save of the season.

Chicago reliever Pedro Strop (1-1) faced five batters and gave up three earned runs in a rocky seventh to take the loss.

San Diego's Derek Norris went 3-for-5 and Wil Myers was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Chicago's Ben Zobrist continued a sizzling recent streak, going 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI, and Addison Russell was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

San Diego jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after leadoff batter Travis Jankowski walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error by Cubs third baseman Javier Baez while Myers reached base and took second.

Myers scored on Matt Kemp's no-out base hit to right center.

Zobrist led off the Cubs' first with a single and scored on Anthony Rizzo's one-out base hit. Zobrist collected another hit in the second -- an RBI single that scored Russell with two outs -- to tie the score at 2.

Russell's no-out double to right in the fourth delivered Baez from second for a 3-2 Cubs lead. Russell came home to make it 4-2 on a Tim Federowicz double to center.

Padres starter Colin Rea departed after five innings, giving up four runs and seven hits. He walked four and struck out three.

Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks left with two outs in the seventh and Jankowski on first. He gave up three runs and six hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

With Strop working in relief, Jankowski reached second a wild pitch and scored on Myers' infield single and a Baez throwing error. After a walk to Kemp, Wallace clubbed his three-run homer to left center in a four-run inning as the Padres took a 6-4 lead.

The Padres made it 7-4 after loading the bases with none out in the eighth. Adam Rosales scored on Kemp's one-out sacrifice to left.
