LOS ANGELES -- Clayton Kershaw delivered another strong case for selection to his fifth consecutive All-Star Game, but even a complete-game shutout of the Philadelphia Phillies still might leave him short.

Kershaw struck out a season-high 13, didn't walk a batter and scattered nine hits, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-0 victory over the Phillies on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Catcher A.J. Ellis hit a two-run homer and shortstop Jimmy Rollins added a three-run shot as the National League West-leading Dodgers (48-38) bounced back from a 7-2 thrashing by the Phillies on Tuesday. Ellis went 3-for-4, and Rollins finished 2-for-4.

Kershaw, who hasn't allowed a run to the Phillies in 31 innings, threw 123 pitches (92 strikes) in his first complete game of the season and the 18th of his career.

"It felt great to get a win," said Kershaw, who hadn't recorded one since he tossed eight shutout innings in an 8-0 romp over the St. Louis Cardinals on June 6. "It was a lot of fun to finish a game. Obviously, that's the goal set every single time. Just a good win for the team, getting five runs early like that. Really, just a good game all around."

Kershaw (6-6) received a no-decision in his Friday start against the New York Mets. Before that, he dropped three consecutive decisions.

"Throwing a complete game, shaking a guy's hand at the end of the game. That's what Sandy (Koufax) always said. That's the goal," Kershaw said.

Kershaw's 10th career game with double-digit strikeouts and no walks is the most in Dodgers history and tied him with John Smoltz and Seattle's Felix Hernandez for the ninth most by any pitcher since 1914, according to Baseball-Reference.com.

An effective curveball by Kershaw keyed Wednesday's performance.

"It's 20 miles per hour difference, and all of sudden it makes his fastball that much better," said Philadelphia left fielder Jeff Francoeur, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. "And he was throwing it for strikes tonight. That was huge."

The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner and Most Valuable Player is one of five players vying for the final spot on the NL All-Star team. Earlier Wednesday, Major League Baseball announced that Kershaw trailed Cincinnati Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto, St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez and Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Kershaw leads only New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia.

"It's always an honor to get to go," said Kershaw, who has a 1.53 ERA in nine starts since May 26 despite a 4-3 mark. His season ERA is 2.85. "I'd obviously love to get to go. If not, I've got a nice nine days off."

Phillies starter Adam Morgan (1-2) was hit hard. The left-hander gave up five runs on six hits in four innings, throwing 88 pitches (52 strikes).

Philadelphia (29-58) lost for the eighth time in 10 games.

The Dodgers loaded the bases in the first inning but failed to score. However, they took advantage of Morgan's struggles during the next two innings.

Ellis homered for the first time this season in the second inning, driving a 3-1 Morgan pitch into the seats in left for two-run shot.

"It feels good up there at the plate," said Ellis, who has served as a backup this season to Yasmani Grandal but frequently catches Kershaw. "I just want to go up there and contribute and have good at-bats when it's my turn to play."

Rollins, who spent 15 seasons in a Phillies uniform before being traded to Los Angeles during the offseason, delivered a three-run blast to left in the third for his eighth homer this season and a 5-0 advantage.
