TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson describes the feeling of hitting a walk-off homer as "rewarding."

The Toronto third baseman's second home run, and fourth hit, of the game was just that, a three-run walk-off blast in the ninth inning that rewarded the Blue Jays with a 10-9 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

"That's probably one of the better feelings in baseball is to hit a walk-off homer," Donaldson said. "You don't get the opportunity very often and when you're able to do it, it definitely feels rewarding."

Donaldson's fifth career walk-off homer, and his second this year, came against right-hander David Robertson (3-1), the White Sox closer.

It came after catcher Josh Thole led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, his third hit of the game, and shortstop Jose Reyes sent him to third with a double.

Donaldson sent a 1-1 fastball to right field for his 12th homer of the season.

"After I swung through the fastball, I was kind of sitting curveball a little bit after seeing two heaters up there," Donaldson said. "I was just able to make the adjustment and hit it off the end of the bat."

"Fastball away," Robertson said. "It caught a little too much middle and he put a great swing on it. It's just a good hitter doing a good job up there."

Designated hitter Jose Bautista drove in five runs with three doubles for the Blue Jays while right-handed reliever Steve Delabar (1-0) got the win.

First baseman Jose Abreu drove in four runs, three with a home run, for the White Sox who took a 9-7 lead with a three-run eighth.

"It's frustrating for me because the team played really well today," Robertson said. "They battled their butts off, got the lead back."

It was the fourth loss in a row for the White Sox (19-24) and the third win in a row for the Blue Jays (22-26).

"Magic, how many times have I talked about magic," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "It's so hard to do, it's so hard to come through with walk-off hits. Those are rare. Some guys kind of thrive for that moment and he's got that mindset. He's just one of those guys, he just wants to be the guy, the hero. And he's done it many a time."

"It's a tough position, being a closer," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "It's an unforgiving position, especially if you don't get it done. We trust him. We're going to trust him again to go back out there and close it down. It's just one of those ones that he didn't get but he's the right guy to be in there."

Each starter lasted five innings.

Blue Jays right-handed knuckleballer R.A. Dickey allowed eight hits, two walks and five runs while striking out five.

White Sox left-hander John Danks allowed seven hits, one walk and six runs while striking out five.

Right-hander Ryan Tepera came in for the sixth to protect a 6-5 lead and allowed a leadoff double to catcher Tyler Flowers and hit second baseman Carlos Sanchez with a pitch.

Left-hander Aaron Loup then took over.

Center fielder Adam Eaton bounced to third, forcing Sanchez at second. The Blue Jays failed to turn the double play and got only the force at second on a grounder to shortstop by left fielder Melky Cabrera, who was safe at first as the tying run scored.

Donaldson singled with two out in the seventh against right-hander Jake Petricka and Bautista doubled to make the score 7-6.

Right-hander Liam Hendriks allowed three runs in the eighth. Second baseman Carlos Sanchez doubled with one out and scored on a single by Eaton, who took second on the throw home. Cabrera singled to shortstop to put runners at the corners.

The White Sox took an 8-7 lead when Abreu's grounder to second resulted in a force at second after a review showed Abreu, originally called out at first, was safe. Singles by designated hitter Adam LaRoche and shortstop Alexei Ramirez pr
