BOSTON - David Ortiz didn't quite reach Ted Williams' famous red seat in right field at Fenway Park with his fourth-inning solo home run, but the longtime Boston Red Sox designated hitter did manage to pass Teddy Ballgame in a different way Saturday.

Ortiz hooked a ball around Pesky's Pole for his 496th career home run and his 30th of the season, setting a new franchise record with his ninth 30-homer season to pass the iconic Williams, who had eight in his 19 seasons.

"We're all engaged every time he comes to the plate," Red Sox interim manager Torey Lovullo said about Ortiz, whose homer capped an eight-run fourth in an eventual 9-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the second of a three-game interleague series.

"It's an exciting time for every one of us. No matter what we try to say to downplay it, he's reaching a pretty impressive milestone."

Ortiz needs only four more homers to become the 27th player in MLB history to hit 500 career home runs.

"It's a special thing to see and be a part of that guy chasing history," said Red Sox left-hander Wade Miley, who made a little personal history of his own Saturday with his first complete game in 130 career starts. "It's just cool to be a part of it."

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts slugged a bases-clearing double, reached third on the throw home, and scored on an error to highlight the big fourth frame for Boston (63-72), which won its second game in a row after a 7-5 win over Philadelphia (53-83) in Friday's series opener.

Bogaerts finished with four RBIs after an eighth-inning run-scoring groundout with the bases loaded.

"We got on a little streak," said Boston right fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., who doubled home a pair of runs in the fourth. "The bats were moving pretty well, we were scoring runs. Games like that are fun and enjoyable, especially when a team's clicking like that."

Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart opened the scoring in the fourth with an RBI single.

"There were some tough breaks that didn't go our way," said Phillies right-hander Alec Asher, who gave up all but one of the Red Sox's eight runs in the inning. "There's nothing you can do about it. You just take your mistakes and move on."

Boston center fielder Mookie Betts had three hits, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.

Miley (11-10) allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out eight on 110 pitches.

"It was pretty good," Miley said of his fastball command. "I was able to move it, it stayed in a lot, but when I needed to go away I was able to up and down. Pretty solid."

Asher (0-2) put up zeroes in the first three innings before he was chased in the fourth and gave up eight hits over 3 2/3 innings in his first career start at Fenway and second overall.

"Maybe I was a little bit [too amped up]," Asher said. "This is a neat park, and still only being my second start, there were maybe still a little emotions. But just try and work past it the best you can."

A two-run single for catcher Carlos Ruiz in the fifth provided Philadelphia with its only runs.

"I've seen Miley before. He pitches extremely well," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. "Nine innings, worked fast, changed speeds, used both sides of the plate, kept the ball down. He did a great job. You got to tip your cap to him. Asher (was) up in the zone. No command of his secondary pitches."
