Giants 3, Padres 2:
Tim Hudson pitched 8 2/3 strong innings as San Francisco took a three-game series from visiting San Diego.

Brandon Hicks homered for the third time in four games as the Giants defeated the Padres for the second straight night. Michael Morse had a run-scoring double and Buster Posey added an RBI single.

Hudson (4-1) allowed two runs and five hits and struck out six in a solid 89-pitch effort and he has pitched at least seven innings in all six of his starts. The veteran right-hander was removed after allowing a two-out homer in the ninth to Yasmani Grandal and Sergio Romo retired Chris Denorfia on a grounder for his seventh save.

Hunter Pence reached on a one-out single in the first and stole second before scoring on Morse’s double off the right-field wall. Hicks made it 2-0 when he led off the second by driving the second pitch from Robbie Erlin (1-4) over the right-field fence and Posey singled home a run with two outs in the seventh.

Erlin was charged with three runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings while losing his fourth consecutive start. The Padres broke Hudson’s shutout attempt in the eighth when Cameron Maybin doubled and came around on two groundouts and have lost 10 consecutive series in San Francisco since last winning one to end the 2010 season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego SS Everth Cabrera was 0-for-4 and finished April with 33 hits, fourth most in franchise history behind Dave Winfield (37 in 1979), Ken Caminiti (37, 1996) and Adrian Gonzalez (34, 2007). … Giants OF Angel Pagan was held out of the lineup due to knee soreness. … Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko (paternity leave) went 1-for-3 in his return while OF Seth Smith (groin) was hitless in four at-bats in his first start since last Thursday.
