Rangers 6, Athletics 1: J.P Arencibia belted a three-run homer during a six-run ninth inning as visiting Texas stunned Oakland.

Rougned Odor doubled home the tying run off closer Sean Doolittle (1-4) and Adam Rosales collected three hits as the Rangers extended their winning streak to a season high-tying five games. Elvis Andrus recorded two hits in the ninth and Robbie Ross Jr. (3-6) worked 1 2/3 innings for the win, which allowed the Los Angeles Angels to clinch the American League West title.

Jeff Samardzija was in line for the victory after matching his season high with 10 strikeouts in eight overpowering innings before Doolittle's meltdown dropped the Athletics into a tie with Kansas City for the top wild card. Sam Fuld delivered an RBI single for Oakland, which stranded 10 runners and failed to score with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth.

Rangers left-hander Derek Holland went 6 1/3 innings, yielding his only run when Fuld grounded a two-out single to right field in the fifth inning to break the scoreless deadlock. Armed with the lead, Samardzija retired the final 10 batters he faced before Doolittle came on and gave up a one-out single by Andrus.

Odor followed by driving a shot up the alley in left-center and moved to third as Andrus narrowly beat the throw to the plate. After video review upheld that Odor was safe at third, Doolittle intentionally walked Adrian Beltre, but Arencibia foiled the strategy by crushing a fastball to deep left to make it 4-1 before Texas tacked on two more runs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Doolittle, who yielded five runs on three hits and two walks while retiring only one batter, had a 15-inning scoreless streak dating to July 6 snapped in his third appearance since coming off the 15-day disabled list. ... Holland, who didn't make his first start of the season until earlier this month after recovering from knee surgery, did not allow a walk in his first 24 2/3 innings before issuing back-to-back free passes in the fourth. ... Home plate umpire Kerwin Danley exited the game in the fifth after being hit in the mask by a foul ball, leaving a three-man crew. Mark Ripperger moved from second base to behind the plate.
