Phillies 9, Nationals 8 (11): Ben Revere hit a two-out, two-strike, game-tying home run in the ninth and added an RBI single in the 11th as Philadelphia rallied to spoil the opener of Washington's six-game homestand.

Domonic Brown led off the 11th against Craig Stammen (4-5) by reaching second base when left fielder Bryce Harper and center fielder Denard Span collided on a routine fly ball. Carlos Ruiz sacrificed and rookie Maikel Franco, playing in his second career game, hit a slow grounder to first base that gave Brown enough time to scamper home with the go-ahead run.

Jake Diekman (4-4) survived a pair of walks in the 10th to earn the victory, Revere delivered a run-scoring hit later in the 11th and Jonathan Papelbon allowed a run in the bottom of the frame before retiring Harper on a liner to left with two runners on. Adam LaRoche homered and drove in three runs while Anthony Rendon added two RBIs for the Nationals, who still lead the Atlanta Braves by seven games in the National League East.

The Phillies initially rallied from a 5-0 deficit with a run in the sixth and seventh innings, two in the eighth and three in the ninth on a two-run homer by Ruiz and the clutch blast by Revere. Revere, who entered with one career homer in more than 1,800 career at-bats, took a 2-2 slider from Rafael Soriano over the right-center field wall to spoil a win for Stephen Strasburg, who yielded one run and four hits without a walk in six innings.

The Nationals jumped out to a 2-0 lead just four batters into the game on LaRoche's 21st home run before Wilson Ramos' sacrifice fly pushed the advantage to 3-0 in the fourth and Rendon's two-run double created a 5-0 cushion in the fifth. Philadelphia began to chip away behind Revere's RBI double in the sixth and Ryan Howard's solo homer in the seventh before scoring a pair of unearned runs in the eighth to set the stage for the ninth-inning heroics.

GAME NOTEBOOK: LaRoche has eight RBIs in his last two games. ... Howard went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and also struck out twice for the fifth straight game. ... Philadelphia starter Jerome Williams was charged with five runs and nine hits in five innings. He entered with a 2.03 ERA in four starts since the Phillies claimed him off waivers last month. This marked the first time he had issued more than three runs since joining the team.
