Phillies 8, Nationals 4: Grady Sizemore and Marlon Byrd each belted a two-run homer and Jimmy Rollins also went deep as cellar-dwelling Philadelphia slugged its way to a three-game home sweep of first-place Washington.

Ryan Howard recorded a pair of RBI singles and matched Byrd with three hits for the Phillies, who went 7-2 on their nine-game homestand and completed their first sweep of the Nationals since Aug. 24-26, 2012. Kyle Kendrick (7-11) overcame a sluggish start and allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings to pick up his second straight win.

Denard Span belted a solo homer among his three hits for the Nationals, who have dropped three in a row for the first time since June 25-27 and saw their lead dip to 6 1/2 games over second-place Atlanta in the National League East. Ian Desmond registered an RBI single among his three hits while Anthony Rendon and former Phillie Jayson Werth also drove in a run apiece.

Span launched his shot into the second deck in right field in the fifth to give Washington a 4-2 lead before Philadelphia erupted in the following inning. Domonic Brown trimmed the deficit by plating Byrd with a double and Sizemore sent an 0-2 curveball from Doug Fister (12-5) into the seats in right to give Philadelphia its first lead of the contest.

Byrd provided insurance in the seventh by blasting Ross Detwiler's first-pitch sinker over the wall in right as the Phillies seized a 7-4 advantage. Howard capped the scoring with a bases-loaded single in the eighth.
