Phillies 4, Nationals 3: Carlos Ruiz plated Ben Revere with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to snap a tie as host Philadelphia squandered a three-run lead before clinching the series win.

Freddy Galvis belted a two-run homer and Darin Ruf added a solo shot for the Phillies, who improved to 6-2 on their nine-game homestand. Ken Giles (3-1) struck out the side in the eighth after relieving Cole Hamels and Jonathan Papelbon worked a perfect ninth for his 33rd save.

Asdrubal Cabrera went deep and Kevin Frandsen recorded two hits and an RBI for the Nationals, who maintained a 7 1/2-game lead over second-place Atlanta in the National League East. Wilson Ramos also drove in a run while Tyler Clippard (7-3) took the loss after allowing an unearned run in one inning without yielding a hit or issuing a walk.

After 4 1/2 scoreless innings, Philadelphia finally broke through in the fifth as Grady Sizemore led off with a triple and Galvis followed with a shot to left field for a 2-0 lead. Ruf increased the advantage with two out in the next frame, depositing a 2-2 offering from Gio Gonzalez over the wall in left-center for his third blast of the season.

Washington got within one in the seventh, loading the bases before Ramos and Frandsen hit back-to-back RBI singles, and tied it while ending Hamels' evening when Cabrera opened the eighth with his 12th homer - and third in 22 games since being acquired from Cleveland. The Phillies regained the lead in the bottom half as Revere led off by reaching on shortstop Ian Desmond's throwing error, stole second and moved to third on Jimmy Rollins' flyout before racing home on Ruiz's fly to center.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gonzalez allowed three runs and six hits in six innings while Hamels gave up three runs and eight hits over seven-plus frames. ... Philadelphia 2B Chase Utley received the night off as he is mired in a 3-for-29 slump. ... Washington has lost back-to-back games for the first time since Aug. 4-5.
