Phillies 4, Mariners 1: Jerome Williams allowed just one run and three hits over seven innings as Philadelphia opened its nine-game homestand by defeating Seattle.

Andres Blanco hit a three-run homer for the Phillies - just his fourth blast since entering the majors in 2004. Darin Ruf and Ben Revere added two hits apiece for Philadelphia, which had dropped seven of its previous nine games.

Dustin Ackley registered an RBI double among three hits for the Mariners, who had won 10 of 12 entering the series. The loss dropped Seattle into a virtual tie with Detroit for the second wild-card spot in the American League and 6 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West.

Rookie left-hander Roenis Elias (9-10) got the start for the Mariners and allowed just one run in four innings of work despite yielding three hits and six walks. Dominic Leone took over in the fifth and gave up a one-out double by Ruf and walked Cody Asche before Blanco lined a 1-1 offering a few rows into the right-field seats.

Williams (3-5) hit the leadoff batter in the eighth before Ken Giles came on and allowed a pair of hits, including Ackley's opposite-field double that got Seattle on the board. However, the rookie setup man recovered to strike out Robinson Cano and Kendrys Morales to end the frame, and Jonathan Papelbon cruised through the ninth for his 29th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mariners CF Austin Jackson made a nice running catch in the gap to rob Blanco of what likely would have been an RBI double in the second inning. ... Williams, who struck out four and walked three, has a 2.20 ERA in two starts since Philadelphia claimed him off waivers from Texas. ... Papelbon has gone 10 straight appearances without allowing a run.
