Nationals 11, Phillies 0: Anthony Rendon finished a triple shy of the cycle and drove in four runs as host Washington routed Philadelphia.

The Nationals had no issues after losing the first two contests of the four-game series and moved 2 1/2 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. Denard Span and the recently acquired Asdrubal Cabrera each had two hits and scored twice for Washington, while Wilson Ramos also had a pair of hits.

The beneficiary of the Nationals' offensive explosion was Jordan Zimmermann (7-5), who more than did his part by limiting the Philadelphia offense to five singles without a walk over seven innings. Phillies starter A.J. Burnett (6-11) was charged with five runs (one earned) in 1 2/3 innings before getting ejected for arguing balls and strikes.

Every starting position player for the Nationals had at least one RBI by the end of the fourth inning, with Rendon leading the way following his run-scoring single in the first and three-run homer in the second. Bryce Harper's single plated Ian Desmond to make it 6-0 in the third inning, and Cabrera's RBI triple highlighted Washington's five-run fourth.

That was more than enough offense for Zimmermann, who struck out eight and threw 71 of his 97 pitches for strikes in a dominant effort against the last-place Phillies. The Washington pitcher also reached base three times on a single and two walks en route to his first win in five starts.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg came out to argue immediately after Burnett was ejected and was kicked out of the game shortly thereafter. ... Rendon's homer was the Nationals' first in 10 games - their longest homerless streak since moving to Washington. ... OF Marlon Byrd led the Phillies with two hits, although he also recorded two of the team's 11 strikeouts.
