Rays 4, Yankees 3 (12): Logan Forsythe delivered a tiebreaking RBI single in the 12th inning as visiting Tampa Bay outlasted New York in the opener of their three-game set.

The Rays lost the lead in the ninth, when Joel Peralta served up a tying solo home run to Brian Roberts, but took advantage of their eighth walk of the game in the 12th against Jose Ramirez (0-2). Brandon Guyer drew the two-out free pass, stole second and came home on Forsythe's base hit to center field, lifting Tampa Bay to its first three-game winning streak since a four-game run from May 22-25.

Brad Boxberger (1-1), the fifth Rays pitcher, retired all six batters he faced to pick up his first career win. Chris Archer gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings to leave his ERA at 1.51 in five career starts against the Yankees.

Tampa Bay drew a pair of walks in the eighth inning to set up Ryan Hanigan's RBI single, which created a 3-2 lead. Jake McGee wiggled out of a jam in the bottom half, but Roberts launched a 3-2 offering from Peralta off the facing of the second deck in right to force extra innings.

Matt Joyce, who had two homers among five hits in the Rays' win at Baltimore on Sunday, picked up where he left off with a solo shot in the first and Kevin Kiermaier led off the third with another blast for a 2-0 lead. Ichiro Suzuki was hit by a pitch by Archer to begin the bottom of the frame and Gardner brought him in with a triple down the right-field line before scoring on Derek Jeter's grounder to tie it.
