Nationals 5, Mets 3 (13): Bryce Harper hit a two-run opposite-field homer with none out in the 13th inning as host Washington outlasted New York.

Ian Desmond, who homered and had three RBIs, walked off Carlos Torres (5-5) to start the 13th and Harper followed with a high drive that easily cleared the fence in left. The victory snapped a nine-game home extra-inning losing streak for the Nationals, who lead the National League East by 4 1/2 games over Atlanta and open a three-game road series with the Braves on Friday.

Craig Stammen (2-4) pitched three scoreless innings for Washington and Denard Span went 4-for-6 to extend his streak of games reaching base to 33. Daniel Murphy went 3-for-6 for New York.

Adam LaRoche doubled to start the second inning and Desmond followed with a blast over the left-center field fence to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead. Jacob deGrom singled off Jordan Zimmermann to start the New York third and eventually scored on Murphy’s double to center.

LaRoche again doubled in the fourth and Desmond drove him in by delivering a single to left-center field to make it 3-1. The Mets tied it in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Eric Young Jr. and Curtis Granderson’s run-scoring single to center.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Murphy went 8-for-14 with four RBIs in the three-game series. … Zimmermann was charged with three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings while deGrom allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. … Washington activated C Wilson Ramos from the paternity list and optioned C Sandy Leon to Triple-A Syracuse.
